Evil or imagination?

I think this Bible quote should ease our minds:
**1Jo 4:4 **
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
Set our minds on the Lord, and our focus on the Cross, His glorious name, and His mighty Blood.

This really is very interesting.

Just to clarify, I did not wake up feeling dread, I woke up and figured I would handle a computer issue that I had running when I went to bed . . . The impression of evil occurred after entering the room and beginning my work. No thunderstorms or other electrically activity going on at the time.

Definitely no flirting with demonics by me – or the cats, presumably – and we’re the only ones who live here. (Can’t speak for my neighbors, however. 😉
To IrishAm, if you haven’t done anything that opens doors to demons, then as fhansen said a few posts up, sometimes they like to bully us when we are growing in our relationship with God.
Interestingly, I had just had the new Rosary blessed (the blessing was in Latin, no less) – hadn’t even “prayed it” yet – which is why it was right there to grab when I went back to my bedroom.

In retrospect, I can think of a similar thing happening perhaps one other time in my life . . . so I’m not a person who regularly fears “ghosties and ghoulies and things that go bump in the night.”

Thank you all for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

and got out of the room as quickly as possible.
I got out of the apartment and went to my fiance’s.
Why “IrishAm” you got out of the room so quickly, and why “Carolinagirl411” you got out of your apartment, who would flee from the other side the Angel or the demon!:nope:

Please remember Lord Jesus words:
He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20).

Those are your territories, demons shouldn’t be allowed to interfere with you, as a Muslim making my way into Christianity, I fell so strong now, yes in the past I was afraid of the dark and demons, but now after my soul knew Lord Jesus, I’m not afraid of them, if I would be in a situations like your, I will say to those demons:
BY THE NAME OF GOD THE MOST HIGH, LORD JESUS, AND THE HOLY SPIRIT, LEAVE MY ROOM/APARTMENT NOW.

And I strongly believe that the will flee right away, because I trust God.

No offense, but until I know what I’m dealing with, prudence dictates a sensible exit from the spot where one has an impression of something being very wrong. God built us with a “flight response” for good cause. Had I taken your advice and there been a prowler on the balcony or a burgler in the room, a holy proclamation may have been counterproductive to say the least.

Sam777- you are right that those are the people’s territories and not the demon, but if anyone experiancing this sort of thing usually runs- unless it has been frequent enough that they have learned to control themselves and pray. there is an intense fear that goes along with an experiance like this that really stimulates your fight or flight reflexes. since a person is litterally in fear for his life, he usually flees. there is also an irrational confusion that accompanies the experiance- like a person could think clearly one minute, and then as this phenomena occurs he suddenly can’t think straight- you know God is out there, but you can’t pray- in fact, it takes a lot of effort to focus on christ. it is an overwhelming sensation of evil and imminant harm in your body mind and soul. I don’t blame a person for running, especially if moving locals helps to feel like he’s left it in the other room and sometimers that is all it takes to be able to focus on christ in prayer. it is a very intense experiance.

Irish, sometimes running is the best offence (this coming from a martial artist of 17 years). you can’t fight these things, and they usually try to break your ability to pray by having a person feel an intense fear and as if God can’t possibly hear them, or that they could not possibly pray the right way for the demon to go away or for God to intervene- it is an awful experiance. when you go outside or change rooms or whatever, it takes the focus of the mind away from the attack and its usually enough of a break to be able to begin praying once more. you have to litterally run to Christ.

You don’t have to be in the same room with them to do battle, you can go pray somewhere else where you feel safe.

But I get what Sam_777 is saying. He has tremendous courage to seek Jesus Christ in an environment where one could pay with one’s life for doing so. I have no doubt that because of his faith, the demons would flee. He has a little something to teach all of us about courage and how to “be not afraid.”

I agree that it takes a tremendous amount of courage! All the same, if i can’t muster it at that moment, I’ll find another way to fight. they are terrible and contemptable things.

If you read my post you would see that something told me to get out of there. It happened so suddenly and I didn’t know what it was so I thought it wise to follow the advice. I also later found out that there has been drug dealing and shooting in my apartment complex. Maybe it was a warning from my guardian angel that something bad was going to happen in the physical world that I needed to be absent from. I have not had such an experience since then, thank the Lord. But I am grateful for His protection.

…along the lines of the suggestion to bless the rooms/house with holy water, I would also suggest a St. Benedict medal and/or crucifix.
😉

Earlier today, I replied to a post about demons in dreams. I ,too had a “dream”. I awoke in the middle of the night very frightened. My husband was working nightshift, and I lay in bed afraid to get up. I felt as though some evil, dark presence surrounded me. I quickly said the prayer to st. michael the archangel over and over until I eventually fell asleep. I later spoke to my priest about this because I truly felt as if something were in the room w/ me. He said there is a book of prayers that one can pray to help thwart evil dreams, nightmares, etc. I don’t remember what it was. I will ask him again about it.

Dear Kate64,

Here’s a good bedtime prayer:
Bedtime Protection Prayer
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of the name His Name, I subject my mind and my dreams only to the work of the Holy Spirit. I ask you Lord to bind up all powers of darkness and forbid them to work in my dreams or any part of my subconscious while I sleep. Amen.

All very interesting posts. I believe Irish and CarolinaGirl as well as this post. I can’t say that I’ve ever experienced anything like you’ve all posted, but I certainly have read enough to say these events do indeed happen.

I have a few Prayers of Deliverance I’ve copied from books I got at the library.

Both books are about the devil, exorcisms, dealing with the occult, ect. One is An Exorcist Tells His Story by Gabriele Amorth, the other is The devil, don’t have the author’s name. Each book has great prayers and the use of sacramentals to fight various levels of evil. They even talk about holy water, blessed salt, candles, ect… They are very Catholic in their approach. Might want to look those up.

Of course, always good old fashioned prayers like the Rosary, St Micheal, holy metals, and scapulars. I am a firm believer in all…

thanks everyone for the prayers and advice. I do have a st. benedict medal above all my doorways, windows ,in my cars, in my pocket. I also carry the pardon crucifix in my pocket. they say that carrying a crucifix, not just a cross will keep evil away. There is also a book of prayers called spiritual warfare that I have. Another website spiritdaily.com, keeps you up on what’s happening in the catholic church today, and if you scroll down, there are all kinds of prayers, including ones against exorcism.

While your intent is good, Sam_777, this may actually do more harm than good in that you are directly confronting the demon when you may not be spiritually prepared to do so. What you wrote uses an “imprecatory” command – using the word “I” or “I language”. This is forbidden by the Church outside of a formal exorcism. “Deprecatory” language is much better, asking the Father to do the commanding. For example:

IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST, AND BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, I ASK YOU, LORD GOD MY FATHER, TO COMMAND THIS DEMON TO LEAVE MY ROOM/APARTMENT NOW.

You can find out more about this, including protective prayers, at the St. Padre Pio Center for Deliverance Counseling.

The Night Prayer in LOTH always has this:
Keep us safe, Lord, while we are awake, and guard us as we sleep, so that we can keep watch with Christ and rest in peace.
It is very comforting.

The OPs experience could have been ordained or allowed in order to prompt him to pray against a real evil of some sort. But while it’s important to be aware of the reality of evil, as Christians we should not be so concerned on an ongoing basis about persecution from that dimension. Our Gods’ bigger than demons or any being stupid enough to follow satan and our job is simply to resist the devil and he’ll flee. We need to be more concerned about sin in our lives and the ways we give him power over us in that area. If we’re overcoming sin, and growing in love, we have little to fear at all.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Tim 1:7

**There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. **1 John 4:18

Dear Irish -
I’ve spoken in other threads about worrying over my Mom possibly seeing evil months before she passed…(imagination, eyesight, reality?) And yet, throughout the months, God’s and Our Lady’s names were voiced by her regularly (my one consolation). But, sadly, I never used the brains God gave me and Mom’s good instruction by sprinkling holy water…In caring for her physical / medical needs, I was brain dead religiously towards the end - and have beaten myself down ever since…(She’d be so angry and disappointed). Also, I, too, had a fearful experience after she passed - finding what I thought was an evil symbol traced in dust here. Hence, I fully understand your fears.

**Holy Water is the answer **- in addition to your blessed Rosary. I keep it now - at my bedside and use it, in particular, before going to sleep at night. In addition to making the Sign of the Cross with Holy Water, I also say St. Anthony of Padua’s Exorcism Prayer:
Behold the Cross of the Lord. Begone, ye enemy powers.
The Lion of the Tribe of Juda, the Root of David, has conquered.
Alleluia. Alleluia. Amen.

I make the Sign of the Cross sprinkling Holy Water (as a priest would when blessing a crowd or holy articles) either in front of me or wherever I want to chase away any fears that might be present.)

Also, another good prayer is, "The Name of Jesus be praised."
