Evil spirits and the Bay of Pigs?

I just remembered this story in the Bible and it has always puzzled me. It was that story where Jesus had gotten out of the boat and Him and the Apostles were on the otherside of a lake. There was a guy there who was possessed by a demon called “legion” or something.
The guy fell down on his knees and wanted to be cured by Jesus. So Jesus “allowed” the spirits to go into a group of pigs and live there.

Questions:
1)Can more than one evil spirit be in a person?
2)What was the point of the story?
3)Why did the spirit have to be inside a physical body?
4)Why did the want to go into pigs?
5)If the pigs died, did the spirits die?
6)Why did they have to ask Jesus for permission?
7)Why did Jesus not destroy them right there?
 
Evil spirits, now banished from Heaven, are welcomed on Earth by mankind which has not made their final decision. God cannot remove choice to make us more moral! The possession of animals by evil spirits is, I think, a good parallel to the animation of UFO critters, which I consider to be from Fallen Angels.

These UFO-types did the same stuff in the Middle Ages, so only the lie of their source has changed. Today they say they are from another planet, in medieval times they said they were from the Queen of the Faeries.

See Margaret Murray’s Witch Cult in Western Europe. These witch cults made it a point to not get baptized to more easily be possessed. Even today the baptized are never abducted by UFO’s, the only example of a baptized UFO “abductee” having been asked, and foolishly given, her permission to be taken. As long as man is still taking Lucifer up on his offer, God will keep him around to insure free will. Renounce Satan and his lies.

I’m no expert, but I’ll try to answer some of your questions.
  1. Yes. Jesus also told a story (sorry, don’t have the reference) about a demon who is cast out of a man and finds that the “house” he had has been put in order. He then finds seven demons worse than itself to come back and take over his “house” again, and the final state of the man is worse than the first.
  2. I haven’t really read much about this story, but here are a few of my best guesses. It’s possible that the story was intended to show Jesus’ power (see answer to #6 below). Also, it could be used to show that no one is beyond Jesus’ help, even a person possessed by multiple demons. I also know that pigs were considered unclean in Jewish law, but I can’t really think of what impact that might have on the meaning of the story.
  3. I don’t know, but it’s possible that it made the spirits feel more powerful.
  4. My guess is that the pigs were close by, so the demons could see them. They knew Jesus wouldn’t let them go into another person, so the asked about the pigs.
  5. The spirits didn’t die. As far as I know, angels and fallen angels are immortal.
  6. It’s one way of showing that the devil and other demons are subservient to God. They cannot do anything God does not allow them to do, even though God does not cause the evil the demons cause.
  7. Jesus will destroy Satan and all his followers at the end of the world, but we don’t really know why He waits. We know He wants the best for all of us, and that he always brings good out of evil. How He does is not completely clear to us now, but one day it will be.
I hope my answers helped at least a little. As I said, I’m no expert. Hopefully someone else will be able to help clarify more.

Any one else? I am still trying to understand why they went in the pigs if they were just going to jump off a cliff? Where did they go then?

Maybe the pigs thought they would be better off dead than possessed. Who knows; if they chose another course sombody might have made a movie about it by now.

It’s interesting that Jesus granted their request in the first place.

Another question might be where did the evil spirits go after the pigs were all dead? :confused:

Can you imagine being a fisherman and seeing the pigs jump from the cliff… hmmm… When pigs swim? or Forget manna, pork rinds from heaven!
