Does anyone know of a book teaching evolution/creation for children (elementary age). I want something that links scripture with theories of evolution…I am finding it hard to ignore this anymore with my children (we homeschool). I have read things that are hard core anti-evolution and only creationism. Isn’t there an alternative from a catholic teaching perspective. Thanks, Stephanie

Steph, start with the catechism. The bible itself doesn’t overtly teach creationism as it is purported by dispensational millenialists or so-called “creation scientists”. These guys have the propensity to overlook as much empirical evidence as do atheistic evolutionists. The truth is somewhere in the middle of strict literalist biblical creationism and random mutation evolution.

I’m not sure why you would want “something that links scripture with theories of evolution” any more than you would want something that links scripture with biochemistry.

There is no inherent reason that scripture and human anthropology need to be at odds. Even theories of polygenism might be acceptable provided one takes the position that out of a particular human-like population, only one pair was “ensouled” by God.

That may not be entirely acceptable to the anthropologists, (souls are not, after all, a part of their study or competence), but leave it as a problem to be worked on in the future.

Ask Dr. Ray on the show “The Doctor is In”. He told me once, I tried to order it–and then lost the name. I’d like the name and author, too.
