Hi! I appreciate this opportunity, but I have NO experience blogging and get easily confused by the endless abyss of blog threads and forums. In fact, if anyone responds to this, I hope I can find it!!
My main reason for joining is to try to get an answer for EWTN’s distressing official response to the Motu Proprio. Here it is, and the quotation marks are EWTN’s:
"As the Church prepares for the implementation on September 14th of the Apostolic Letter Summorum Pontificum permitting a wider celebration of the Mass according to the Missal of 1962, EWTN will also be considering under what circumstances the universal and particular law might permit the occasional telecast of this extraordinary form of the Latin Rite."
Yipes!! “MIGHT PERMIT THE OCCASIONAL”??
Aside from prayer, EWTN may just have the biggest impact on propagating the beauty and reverence of the Tridentine Mass. As we know, they broadcast worldwide and are viewed by millions, both Catholic and nonCatholic.
Why the hesitation? I know Mother Angelica loves it! Are the current powers-that-be at EWTN closet progressives? Some of their programs and jazzy rock & roll music & presentations suggest that they are. Who is their spiritual director now and would be the one to make such decicions? They certainly don’t go out of their way to introduce people to the beauty and uplifting features of the Extraordinary Rite. On the other hand, their Novus Ordo Masses are always reverent, and their Benedictions are great!
I am certainly not trying to denegrate EWTN. By and large, they are great. It’s just that they have such a global reach that they are in a unique position to introduce the beauty of the Tridentine to millions.
I would appreciate any knowledgeable answers.
Thank you and God bless!!
