Recently, I’ve been downloading programs from EWTN’s Audio Library and converting the Real Player files to iPod’s format.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in having programs converted for their iPod.

I don’t have an Ipod, but if you know of a good way to convert Real Audio programs to wav or mp3 I’d be interested.

I also enjoy the programmming from the EWTN. unfortunately I cannot listen to them when they are live on air. I do listen to download from the internet. Real Audio is not very popular and so MP3 would be the best way to promote those programmes. I am wondering why they are not using MP3.

I would also be interested to know how to convert RA to MP3 format

I’ve used a program called “Total Recorder” to convert some EWTN RealAudio programming into MP3.

It works reasonably well, but the only problem is that you have to do the conversion in real time, since the software will literally “record” whatever you’re playing on your computer.

Here’s the link to the site if you’re interested in looking into it further… www.highcriteria.com

In the meantime, if anyone has found other software that works better, please let me know. I love being able to listen to EWTN when I’m traveling on business!!

I found one called Mini-Stream Ripper that works great, but I have to pay for the full version. The sample version only converts up to a half hour. I think I’m going to buy it but I have to get some cash first. They don’t take Paypal 😦

I would appreciate one that would convert to wav, as its pointless to convert to Mp3 for me, as my only mp3 playing source is my computer! But I would love to be able to burn some of it to a cd to play in my car (my nice just over a year old Honda that despite being that new does not have mp3 capability in its cd player)

I was thinking of setting up a bittorent server and site for Catholic stuff. Should I look into doing that with EWTN?

What programs should we focus on first?

What file formats would be best? Wavs are huge, mp3s are the standard, but you need software to rip them back to wavs or special burning software on cds. Ogg is open source, so you don’t have to pay royalties for the software.

Would y’all be interested in like daily readings via bittorent or gregorian chant, recorded rosaries?

I have been using a program called “Wisecroft Ripper”. It works well. You can convert the files without having to listen to them in real time. That makes the process MUCH faster. It converts directly from Real Audio to MP3, Real Audio to WAV or WAV to MP3. Their site is wisecroft.com.

I was in contact with EWTN, and they informed me that they
…will soon begin offering selected weekly porgrams as a Podcast…
I have an iPod, and I love the podcast feature. I can’t wait!

Good conversion program is found at nch.com.au/switch/this handles .ra, .wav, .acc, and converts all to MP3. It will also do .dss although that feature will expire unless you buy the full version.

For download of many EWTN programs already converted to MP3, check out www.catholicaudio.us

You don’t have to convert for an iPod any more! Check out the podcast subscription on their homoe page. Works great in iTunes and with iPod through iTunes…

I hate to admit it but my wife and I have not even a clue as to what an iPod is.We kind’a think it is a device where you download music or such for a fee.Are we right?

An iPod is a music player made by Apple Computers. You download audio from the internet (legally of course 🙂 ) or take the audio off CDs, and put it on the iPod. You can then listen on the go, just like a CD player, only with a whole lot more music or books.
Here’s a link to Apple’s store, just so you can see the different iPods:

Hope that helps.

Actually you don’t have to do it in real time…if you open Total Recorder, hit the Options button, then scroll to the Recording Source and Parameters button. Click Accelerate Recording. You won’t be able to hear what you are recording but it will speed it up a bit.
Hope that helps. BTW - I think it’s okay to copy this stuff if it’s for personal use only but you may want to purchase it if you wish to pass it around.

This just in:

**Selected EWTN programs now available as podcasts for MP3 players
**

IRONDALE, Ala. (CNS) – EWTN Global Catholic Network is now offering podcasts of selected programs in MP3 format at no charge on its Web site at www.ewtn.com. Podcast listeners typically download audio files from the Web to a computer, then transfer the files to a digital audio player, such as Apple’s iPod, for listening at another time. An estimated 22 million Americans own portable MP3 players and 6 million of them have downloaded podcasts from the Internet. “Throughout our 25-year history, EWTN has always embraced new technology to carry out its mission of evangelization,” said Michael P. Warsaw, EWTN president, in a statement. “This new podcasting initiative complements our existing audio and video streaming and enables us to spread the Gospel to an even wider audience.” Available programs will include readings and the homily from the televised daily Mass; daily installments of EWTN’s Open Line radio programs; and weekly installments of “Sunday Night Live,” “The Journey Home,” “Mother Angelica Live Classics,” “Threshold of Hope” and “EWTN Live.”
