Hello to one an all,
two nights ago I eventually tuned into EWTN Satellite radio from the Astra Sat:

So now will be able to keep more informed about what some are referring too, I must admit until I came on this forum I never heard of Archbishop Fulton Sheen.
They played some old recordings of his (vinyl) and he seems to put things together well. I listened to Mass from Birmingham Alabama lastnight, i’m glad that we have Catholic programmes on air, as we seem to be out numbered in that area.
So if any Europeans that have SKY TV want to know how to tune in then let me know.
Ok Cheers Stephen

Welcome to the world of EWTN, Stephen. They have a lot of good programs and repeat a lot of them. You can check their monthly schedule at the top left of their home page.

You can also listen to voice recordings of many their old programs, too. And their library has most current Vatican and other religious documents. For free! And, of course, their Religious Catalog is pretty good if you’re looking for a special gift for someone.

Archbishop Sheen was the most popular show on television in the U.S. in the 1950s. My how times have changed. But his message is as valid today as it was then. 👍

But you don’t see too many Bishops dressed like that today!

We need to reevangelize Europe like yesterday perhaps EWTN can help do it. THere are many searching for true meaning in life besides the secular in Europe.

EWTN is excellent. I try and tune in but can only get Radio via my satellite system. It cost 279 pounds to set up in England. A bit pricey

Many of EWTN’s TV programs are “talking head” programs and as such, they are quite understandable on radio. You can pick up EWTN on short wave frequencies:

ewtn.com/radio/freq.htm

The European schedule can be found here:

ewtn.com/radio/astra_schedule.htm

==============

Digitial requirements are as follows:
**

EWTN Technical Information for Digital Radio
EWTN Radio Europe/U.K.**
Satellite: Astra 2B

Orbital Position: 28.2º East

Transponder: 36 (27500, 2/3)

Downlink Frequency: 12.402 GHz (V)

Subcarrier: 12402 MHz

Polarity: Vertical

Equipment Needed

Dish Antenna (60cm to 80cm, depending on location)

Universal LNB

Digital Satellite Receiver

==============

The EWTN Audio Library is located here. Most of their past shows are archived and can be listened to on your computer. Many of these tapes were originally broadcast on television.

I see EWTN here in the Cable here in Spain, the spanish version is worse than the american, and some repetitive, greetings

For those who don’t get EWTN on cable or satellite they have 24/7 broadcast on their website. Go to www.ewtn.com and follow the instructions.

Sorry about that, unfortunately you don’t have control over cable the way you can swing the dish to other satellites.
I think EWTN viewing is on the Hotbird satellite, this is probably mumbo jumbo to you, but I used to install satellites for a living, antenna’s as well.
I’m not sure if your under Skys footprint ie: the area that the satellite Astra covers.
I checked and EWTN radio is only on the Astra satellite, i’m not sure if EWTN is on the old analog sat: system.
Anyway the price of digital satellite receiving equipment is coming down all the time, and it might be a good idea sometime to invest in one.
I know Sky gives you a receiver for free, as long as you subscribe for a year, with a £40 installation fee.
I don’t subscribe to Sky anymore, but as they don’t own the Astra satellite up there then we can still use it.
Anyway if your keen to receive this EWTN channel it might be worth looking into.

John are you receiving pictures from SKY ?
Unfortunately only EWTN radio is on the Astra sat: I checked out the viewing and it’s on the Hotbird 6 Satellite, a second dish isn’t that expensive and you will need someone with a digital meter to adjust the dish.
The chances of setting up a digital receiver by random is probably less than winning the lottery, not like the old analog system, where you could view and move the dish at the same time.
Anyway if EWTN wants to evangilize Europe, then they should consider moving to ASTRA because that is the main satellite for Europe. ie: Sky.

How to use EWTN when you live in Europe and are not able to get the programs on TV!
  1. You have to look at it on Internet.
  2. When you use Internet for the TV programs, you can’t use the European scedule. You will have to convert the American timetable to European time.
How do you do that?

A) Click yourself into EWTN’s website:
ewtn.com/

B) Point at ‘Television’ with your mouse (A little grey background pups up).

C) Click at ‘Program Scedueles’

D) Click at the month you are in (the months program) under the heading “North America

E) Click at the week you want to watch (ex. Dec 12 - Dec 18)

F) Clik at ‘Printable Scedule’.

G) Print it out!

H) At the top of the scedule (12:00 AM , American Time) you write O6:00. With that done, you can convert the whole timetable to European time. 1:00 AM, American Time, will be 07:00 European time. 2:00 AM, American Time, will be 08:00 European time. … 7:00 PM will be 24:00 European time.

I) TIMES IN EUROPE MAY BE VARIABLE WITH +/- ONE HOUR, SO YOU HAVE TO TEST YOUR NEW SECDULE OUT. (Choose the program you want to see! If your program starts, your convertion (of time) has been perfect for your European country. If it is another program that starts, (one hour too early or one hour too late according to your converted timetable), correct your timetable according to the actual time in your European country.

Once corrected, you can use your correction for all the EWTN programs untill the summer time starts next year.

HOW DO YOU GET THE “INTERNET-TV” TO WORK?
  1. Use the usual ETWN’s netadress:
    ewtn.com/
  2. Go to the bottom of the site.
  3. Click at MULTIMEDIA (at the bottom)
  4. Now you have reached “Live EWTN TV - English”. You have to decide if you want to look at the program at RealVideo or Windows Media (If you don’t have anyone of them already you can have one for free if you click at Radio on EWTN and go into the Jukebox).
  5. Choose the right speed for your PC and make a click on the right speed(or try until you find the right speed):
    RealVideo 28k to 100k 300k 500k
    Windows Media 28k to 100k 300k 500k
ENJOY CATHOLIC TELEVISION ON YOUR PC!!!

Best wishes and blessings!

I want to correct:

Gratias Grace … 7:00 **PM [/quote said:
will be 24:00 European time.

When the time (EWTN’s North American time) is 24:00 European time, it is 6:00 PM at EWTN’s North American scedule, of course! (12.00 AM at EWTN’s North American scedule is 06:00 in most of Europe).

The timetable I sceduled in my last post is correct, except for the mistake when the clock is 24:00 in Europe. If you convert the North Amereican time EWTN use to European time, it will work for all the countries on the link (including some African counties):

worldtimezone.com/utc/utc+0100.html

Hope the information about how and when to see EWTN-programs at Internet has been helpful. Most people in Europe (and also in some other places in the world) with a TV-cable connection will not be able to look at EWTN’s programs on TV.

It is good that Internet can be used to watch TV programs too, - when the programs are catholic! 😃
