I notice that in the spring EWTN cut back drastically in its shortwave broadcasts in the English language, especially what can be picked up in North America.
I am thankful we are not completely cut off, but I did want to get the word out that unless you’re in the GTA, or somewhere along the 401between Cobourg and Belleville (where reception of AM 1460 from Rochester is sketchy by day, and non existent in he evening and overnight) , AM and FM signals are not available, so for those of us who want Catholic radio, the Shortwave signal is the only game in town.
In Canada, broadcasting rules have it that single faith radio stations are not permitted. Yes, thee are some Christian statons, but all MUST make available time to other faiths who may want it, so some have some Jewish or Hindu paid programming where it has been requested , but there is NO Catholic programming on any of these stations. (One of these networks will not even list Catholic Churches on the “church directory” on their website)

EWTN is not available on Sirius, though something called “The Catholic Channel” is, but I am sick and tired of being asked by everyone and everyone to “Subscribe”. why should I oay a fee for programming I do not want , in fact much of which I find highly objectionable from a content standpoint, just to get one station I want?

So, I would like to see if there is anyone out here on this group, who would be willing to join me in letting EWTN know that there is an audience in Canada that values the shortwave programming, and wants iot maintained. Not just for ourselves, but so that other Catholics who do not know about it will have access to it (I already advertise WHIC 1460 Rochester at local parishes, poor signal notwithstanding) and as an evangelization tool for the lapsed Catholics and lost out there.
Canada, especially Quebec is full of lapsed Catholics. Once the center of Catholicism in North America, Quebec is now a Catholic wasteland, now one of the most completely secular places in the world.
Which bings me to my next point: EWTN reaches out in Spanish and English, Why not also in French? Not just to reach the Quebecois, but there are millions in Francophone African countries, as well as in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos who would love a Catholic lifeline in their own language. In those parts of the world, Shortwave radio is still important.
The quality of signal I do get on 15610 and 11520 kHz is infinitely superior to what I get on AM from Rochester, so it would be worth getting the word out that this is available, and hopefully we can have it 24/7 once again.

EWTN is not available on Sirius, though something called “The Catholic Channel”
It is available on the Sirius platform but not the XM Radio platform, so depending on the service it is or isn’t available.

I have the same issue traveling across IL; mostly low power FM repeaters with an occasional AM station.

Perhaps EWTN believes that shortwave radio is not so much needed in the internet era. I would encourage you to lobby them on this issue.

Agreed on the short wave. My Sirius XM carries EWTN. I was not aware the service had gradients.

If you have an Echo Dot, EWTN is available. Just say “Alexa, play EWTN”. It is going as I type here.

I have an XM radio and my wife has a Sirius. Irritates me that I can’t get EWTN. I called to ask, but got a nonsensical answer. Such is life.

I’m old school. I will never get"Alexa" into my home. Google dominates our lives and knows enough about us already! ;_)

I’m out…way out on my land now listening to EWTN on SW, we’ll out of range of my WiFi router.

As I said earlier there many francophone in Africa and Southeast Asia who would love to get EWTN in French on SW.

The vast majority of Canada’s population lives within 100 km of the US border so if you live in Toronto , Hamilton or Niagara, WLOF 101.7 Buffalo gives you full service. Once you get east of Oshawa, it’s gone.

Granted most people within that 100 km swath have internet, but get much more north than that and broadband is not available. We want to reach everyone with “the fullness of the truth” don’t we?

Would that not include the bothers and sisters of St. kateri Tekakwitha who need the good news of Jesus Christ as much as anyone?

I’m not sure what kind of short wave receiver you are using, or what kind of antenna, but a low noise preamp and “shielded” antenna that only responds to the quieter H field (loop shielded against E field) helps considerably at those frequencies.

Often the difference between no signal vs passibly ok signal.

I use an old 1970’s Realistic Patrolman radio, and also a Sanyo boom box which is excellent quality.

What has been lost is “Sonrise” , Morning Glory, Morning Mass and Teresa Tomeo.

Then WWCR takes over and stays on until Al Kresta.

I will look into your suggestions, but it seems to me they simply are not on in English durin the daytime if WWCR is on
