Looking at the broadcast times, I have to wonder if this is token programing, so that they can claim they try to represent the Eastern Churches as well as the Latin Church. While I think it’s great that they are showing them, I have to ask, who is really going to see them at those hours?
At EWTN, there is obviously an enormous bias in the programmng, towards featuring Mother Angelica in priime time. I don’t care to listen to MA, as a matter of personal preference. EWTN is virtually a cult of MA. (Wait until she dies, watch what happens to that network - it will simply be a vigil of praying and waiting for her sainthood and they will not let up on it, you can bet on that.) EWTN is largely about MA, not the EW – My opinion. Isn’t it nice to start up a Catholic network and have everybody in the world praying for you? Well, enough of this.

I think the liturgical prayers of the Eastern Rites are very beautiful and greatly more solemn than the modernized Western Rite.

Why the animus??? I’m curious to know what posters like this have contributed financially to the “network that is brought to you by you”. Having watched the network for years AND financially supported it I can say with no doubt whatsoever that the above posted comments are completely wrong. The #1 presentation EWTN offers is the Mass - 3 hours per day - morning, noon, & night so ALL working people have access to it, as well as ALL those around the world. That #1 is supplemented by countless more presentations of the Mass from around the world - from Rome, D.C., installations of new bishops, Holyday Masses, etc. Nothing comes anywhere close to the air time devoted to the Mass which varies between 25 and 30 hours per week (out of 168 broadcast hours).
MA has had virtually NO primetime exposure for the last 5 or 7 years since she became ill (other that the Tuesday evening rebroadcast of old MA shows). Even before that, she had exactly ONE primetime hour show. The comment “…an enormous bias in the programmng, towards featuring Mother Angelica in priime time…” is not and has never been true. The comment at best is ignorant and at worst slanderous. It’s simply amazing that some posters choose to spend their time misrepresenting the truth like this.
Start your own EC network and leave EWTN and MA to theirs.

Correction. I can’t count! EWTN presents the Mass FOUR times daily (8,Noon,7,Midnight EST) which translates to approx. 28 times per week PLUS the additional ones as detailed above for a total probably pushing 35 hours per week presenting the MASS - nothing else comes close in the amount of air time - especially not Mother Angelica herself as someone has erroneously (and perhaps maliciously) posted.
