I was listening today on EWTN Open line with Marcus Grodi, A woman called in and gave a name of a group who sells a prayer booklet called Pieta. THIS GROUP THAT SELLS THIS ITEM THAT WAS MENTIONED IS CALLED: OUR LADY OF THE ROSARY LIBRARY WWW.OLRL.ORG
THIS GROUP IS AN EXTREME TRADITIONAL CATHOLIC GROUP, I URGE YOU ALL TO ADVOID SUPPORTING THEM, THEY HAVE TIES TO THE SSPX (SOCIETY OF ST. PIUS X). You can go to their website and see they sell a brochure called the evils of the new mass (Novus Ordo), they are not faithful to Rome. Check for yourself. They almost derailed me a couple years ago when I started my journey back to the faith, BEWARE!!!

I started reading their stuff a couple years ago when I started to take the faith more seriously. They are ****. They do nothing but scare.
 
Pieta? I have that prayer book I think. It is blue paperback and has all the St Brigett novena prayers in it… Is that it? :confused: Is it a bad prayer book?

I have it too, as well as many others I know who are faithful to Rome. I’ve not heard it associated with a discension group until now, but find nothing wrong with the prayer book, although I haven’t looked at it in a few years. I Iove the St. Bridget prayers, and actually got through the year in 99. I hope to pray them again at some point. I’ll have to check out the website…
 
I would say 85% of the materials on the OLRL website are very faithful reading. The other 15% is schizmatic and rather poisonous reading which teaches dissent and disobediance to the Church and the Magesterium. The good writings you can find at any good Catholic book store or straight from the publisher.

Does anyone know a faithful Catholic website that offers comparable deals as the OLRL website? I have to be honest I have almost broken down a few times and bought some of the books listed on their site. I personally do not want to support these schizmatic traditionalists. I love the tridentine form of the Mass there are many who do. I suggest if you are interested in the Tridentine mass to go to those that are in union with Rome our Holy Father and there local Bishop. Hmm… my MIL has carried that prayer book in her shop for over 25 years… as far as I know she gets it from a regular book supplier, not from any dissentionist group (and my in-laws are VERY faithful to Rome.)

I know some of the prayers border on “chain letters” and some are from private revelations that haven’t been officially approved. But some of the prayers are approved ones that are hard to find otherwise.

I don’t believe there is anything wrong with the prayerbook, it’s the particular place that was selling it, the place that I have the problem with is Our Lady of the Rosary Library www.olrl.org they are only one of the many places that sell that prayer book, beware of them not the book.

Apparently “the Church rejects the promises allegedly revealed to St. Bridget” - that’s news to me. And, I bet, to a lot of others. 🙂 ##

Notary of the Supreme Holy Congregation of the Holy Office In some places, a little work has been disseminated called the “Secret of Happiness: 15 prayers revealed by the Lord to St. Bridget in the Church of St. Paul at Rome”, published at Nice and elsewhere in several languages. Since it is asserted in this pamphlet that God made to St. Bridget certain promises, whose supernatural origin is uncertain, let local ordinaries take care not to grant permission for publishing or reprinting pamphlets or other writings which contain these promises.

I own this prayer book and find it very useful and very wonderful. I don’t think that anything is wrong with it but who knows I could be wrong…

Apparently it is the promises that are the problem, and not the prayers, themselves.

The St. Bridget prayers are beautiful. I prayed them when I was fairly new in the faith and even then wasn’t sure about the promises. I just liked the prayers and felt it couldn’t hurt to pray them. As always, I am wary of “chain letter” type prayers and prayers with promises not approved by the Church. At the time I prayed them, I wasn’t aware that they were not approved.
 
With so much rich spiritual diversity within the Faith, why even dabble with questionable material? “Our Lady of the Rosary” is named after the prime example of spiritual prayer. Sticking with approved spiritual devotions is the safest way to avoid heresy.
 
I have that book, but it was given to me. It is sold at the Catholic Shop downtown, thanks for the warning, I’ll be careful.
 
I have that book—it is carried in many Catholic bookstores as well as many parishes. There are some beautiful prayers contained in it—I myself had some reservations about the promises located therein. I guess basically have ignored the promises because I don’t pray to make a “deal” with God—like “I’ll pray this prayer if you grant these 15 promises”—I pray out of a love of God and a desire to be closer to my Lord. I would guess most people who have the Pieta book probably feel the same way.
