The anthem setting by Healey Willan was part of our repertoire when I was a Baptist.

Lift High the Cross

Lord, By Your Cross and Resurrection (OCP, John Foley)

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

We Should Glory in the Cross (Multiple settings avaliable; Steven Janco, published by GIA, Ricky Manalo, in the music issue and published by OCP)

Choral music: We Glory in Your Cross, by Donald Pearson from OCP’s Trinitas series, as well as any of the countless classics from CPDL.org

Here’s my pick

Entrance:
Lift High the Cross

Offertory
At the Name of Jesus (Kingsfold)

Communion
Sing My Tongue the Song of Triumph

Recessional
God, We Praise You

I think you are wrong about the tune KINGSFOLD. That is the tune for ā€œI Heard the Voice of Jesus Sayā€.

For Communion it is easier to participate with a verse/refrain setting of something, not a hymn or chant that is not an antiphon.

If you like a little bit of Latin, this one (Adoramus Te Christe) is beautiful (I have seen several different harmonizations, this one from the old St. Gregory Hymnal): gutenberg.org/files/23673/23673-h/images/N190a_P288.gif

Translation of the words: ā€œWe adore You, O Christ, and we bless You, because by Your holy Cross You have redeemed the world.ā€

However, you don’t have to sing at Communion. It’s something that the choir can pretty much take up on their own. Besides, this particular hymn, used on Good Friday, is most appropriate for the Exultation of the Holy Cross.

Thanks for the correction. The tune is King’s Weston. It is a beautiful melody and we’ve used it for Palm Sunday.

Now why can’t I find that in ENGLISH???
Our church choir does an arrangement of ā€œAdoremus Te Christeā€ every Good Friday (during the Veneration of the Cross) that has both Latin and English words (one verse of each). I can dig in our choir loft to find the source if you need it.

I would second this one. I absolutely love it. šŸ‘

Take a look at this. If students at a Mennonite College can pull this off then certainly a Catholic parish should be able to. It’s our musical heritage.

Of course I may be biased - did I mention that I love it? 😃

The one you link to (by Palestrina) is lovely, but the one I was citing is by Dubois. Much simpler, but still beautiful.
