Exodus 39: What;s an ephos

Just wondering, how to picture this, in Exodus 39 they describe the tabernacle and the ‘ephos’ that is worn. I’m not able to picture this. What is an ephos?

That’s it: nobody knows for sure what an ephod exactly is and what looks like. It is one of those mysteries of the Old Testament.

We can gather from various OT books that it was (1) some sort of clothing, (2) an oracular device like the equally-mysterious Urim and Thummim (for instance, whenever Saul or David wished to ask God, they asked a priest for the ephod to know His answer), and even (3) a freestanding object, which could be used in worship (in Judges, Gideon and Micah are each said to have cast an ephod out of metal; an ephod was standing the sanctuary at Nob, with a sword behind it).
