Is becoming godparents really just a one time honorific, as I read recently?
What should be the expectations of the godparents of one’s child? should we invite them to birthdays? – that seems like angling for a gift.
My children’s godparents have disappeared from their lives, both sets having gotten divorced. My own godparents never bothered to inform me that I was baptized Catholic, but that was some 70 years ago, so no sense in carrying a grudge.
Now my grandson has godparents. should I just expect he’ll never see them again?

I pray for my godkids every day.

Some of them I am very involved, others I have never met in person (proxy) and everything in-between.

For my first child, thegodparents are still always presents and try to fulfill thir responsability.
For the second child, it seems that the future godparents will never really try to fulfill their responsability or cannot do it (one is not a practicing Catholic, the other soes not seems to really want to implicate in his life). I regret it, but we have not a lot of choice when electing them.

For myself, one is a family member, so we stay in contact, and was at least a little present for me religiousely, the other maintain contact when I was a little child, but I have no memory of it.
