(1) What exactly is a jubilee year?

(2) What are the spiritual benefits of a pilgrimage?

(3) What’s up with the doors thing anyway?

  1. It’s one of those super cool years that happens like every 25 years, or whenever the Pope says when. It’s got a bunch of cool stuff that comes with it, too.
  2. Loooads of grace. I mean looooaddddds. Enough to fill 250 pools. More than that.
  3. These doors are only opened during these jubilee years. They are a cool place to get that looooooooad of grace.
(sorry if it’s too simple and I probably left out a bunch of info)

Google is your friend 😉
Google actually gave me a lot of really random results, and the relevant ones seem to assume you’re more familiar with basic concepts than I am.

They don’t cover this stuff in RCIA at all.

I don’t imagine there’s time in RCIA class to go over even half the stuff that goes along with being Catholic. The Holy Door was a new one on me and I’m a lifelong Catholic 🙂

For future reference, you might find the Catholic Encyclopedia helpful for some things.

In RCIA you learn salvation history.
During the period of Mystagogia, (after you enter the Church at Easter) you will have time ask questions about these spiritual devotions, events, and practices.

As I recall the “mystagogia” after I did RCIA consisted of one class on a night I couldn’t attend.

Yikes. It’s supposed to be many sessions.
Who was your sponsor?
Who was your Director? Just because you’re not in class anymore, you can still ask them questions. They should still be available to you.
And, of course, there’s always the priest. 😉

Well, I’m not anywhere remotely close to that church, so I can’t go back to the people there (and I hated that director anyways). I’ve been meaning to ask a priest but it’s hard to pin ours down. I asked my sponsor and got some answer but he’s just so…practical is the best way I can put it. Great guy but all intellect.

Well, you got a couple of answers here. Just keep asking when you need to.
