Explain what steps to take to deny yourself and take up your cross?

Briefly, we are to let God’s will be done rather than our own. We are to practice temperance… taking control over our desires. We are to do works of love and be merciful. We are to unite our struggles and sufferings with Christ’ We are to strive to take the narrow path rather than following the crowds along the wide road.

I get up and go to work.

As grateful as I am for the wage, and for the job, there’s not a day that goes by when I wish I could stay home and work on housekeeping, helping care for my elderly infirm parents-in-law, staying in touch with my daughters, community volunteer activities, music, writing, fitness and health, etc.

And frankly, it would be nice to actually not be exhausted all the time.

So I’ll stick with my answer–getting up and going to work.

Steps to the Cross:
  1. Listen. listen, listen to His saving Word. Listen until you hear what only God can say - to you - and then believe, believe no longer in yourself, but in Him. Listen and believe until He becomes your All.
  2. Thus, “It is not about ME.” Forget yourself, lose yourself, offer up yourself. This can be gradual; it can be accomplished only with His grace. As John the Baptist said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (Jn 3:30)
  3. Realize - come into the reality of the Truth: I find me, I discover myself, I become myself, only in Him.
As St. Paul wrote,
Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Then live, live in the revealed Truth, as Paul did, whatever the cost…
