Hello All,

Does anyone else watch Extreme Home Makeover? This show, along with, Life on the Rock on EWTN are the only 2 shows that are family sits down and watches together each week.

I cannot believe the amount of good this show does. It seems to effect everyone. I know these people are getting a house they could never dream of but they are really being helped out.

I have also noticed on many of the shows, Crucifixes in the home, pictures of the Sacred Heart, etc., etc.

Just wondering what you thought of it.

ybiC,
Trevor 🙂

My boyfriend won’t let me watch it because I end up crying every week

I watch it. It is certainly thousands of feet above the usual garbage that tv offers. However, I might have a quibble about it as it has kind of a “look how good we are!” tone to it, whereas the best kind of charity is much more low-key.

I was watching a similiar show, In a Fix, on TLC. The crew comes in and fixes up a house where the homeowner has overzealously started home repairs that they were not qualified to do. Thus they leave the home in worse shape then before.

Anyways, the home owners on this particular episode were a very devout Christian family. The husband stayed behind to work on the home repairs with the TV crew - while the devout wife gets set away to a spa for 3 days.

During the big “reveal”, the wife fainted upon entering the front door and seeing the completed room. The cast was stunned. She quickly was revived and ran over to her bible placed in the new room. She held it over her head and shouted praises for Jesus. All this woman could say were words of thanksgiving to God. They panned to the crew and they sat there crying because of this woman’s devotion. It was really touching.

I was even more stunned because the show did not edit this.
The show aired the crew’s reactions after they left the house. They were visibly shaken and some cried. One exclaimed he had never witnessed such faith. No one from the crew was left untouched in some way - which was very visible in the taping.

It was beautiful.

We love the show! It is the only show I let my kids watch. My kids have to be prepared for the nest day before they can wath it. Before it comes on we run around the house screaming “5 minutes to Home Extreme Makeover!” 😃

Peace,
Jen

I never miss it! Great Show!!

Its the Sunday night family TV venue at my home. I am happy that the show’s producers apparently do not discriminate against overt Chrisitian believers. In fact, they have invited celebrities on more than one occassion to chime a song with explicit Christian lyrics. The show’s hosts/makeover experts have on some episodes likewise commented on the tangible sense of grace that is present in the family/community. Just need someone to point out Jesus as the source of that blessing. A good lesson on how meeting people at their need can provide an opening to share the Gospel.

This is a great show. I watch it every week with my wife and kids. I always make fun of them for crying, meanwhile if they would turn around they would see I have tears in my eyes…(They never do). FYI - It’s near impossible to not cry when watching this show.

I love the show. I missed last night’s (I thought it was a repeat of the boy allergic to mold one), and can’t wait for it to be re-ran. I’ll watch tonight’s “How’d they do that?” anyway!

When the show first started, it was very much a “look what we’re doing” show. There were some train-wreck episodes, and some of the design team had personality issues (an “It’s all about me” type of thing). They quickly turned it around, and I believe got rid of the twerps. The designers they have now are very genuine seeming. The guys all cry at the drop of a hat–that ain’t faked. They really care. My favorite scene was when one of the guys–Preston, maybe?–lifted up the autistic boy so he could play with the windchimes on his gigantic swing. You could just see the love for the boy in Preston’s face.

It was beautiful wasn’t it…my favorite also…I have an autistic son and that show especially touched my heart.

Thank God for this show! It is excellent spiritual nourishment, and the fact that its on SUNDAYS makes it even more heartwarming! I find myself giving out MANY mini prayers for the families involved! If ya dont squirt out a few during this show then you gotta be dead inside.

I love it. It helps you to see that many people are bearing crosses worse than yours. However, my BIL says that the taxes the people may have to pay in the future may force them to have to sell the house if their incomes are not that great. Too bad if that’s true.

I did send an e-mail to ABC the first week it was airing because they had a semi-porn commerical for Desperate Housewives airing during the show and it just was not kosher with me. (table top scene and outdoor towel dropping scene) My little nephews were watching to see “what daddy does on his construction jobs” and I went to town distracting them after the first commercial. UGHH!

They do some interesting things with tax loopholes, actually. Something about them actually renting the property from the homeowner for the allotted time period, so that the renovations they do fall under tenant improvements. However, their property taxes will still go up if they are based on the value of the home, insurance costs will go up, and utilities can be much higher. That’s why it’s so nice when the construction company chips in to pay for a year’s utilities, or even pay off the mortgage.
