i use a Bible app which produces neat images with Bible verses on them.

Do you think it is helpful to share these on Facebook, or will I just come across as ‘holier than thou’?

And does this count as evangelism?

I think people are INUNDATED with posts, memes, pictures, and platitudes. Whilst your intention is good, it will just be another piece of noise in the overwhelming hum on social media. I think your efforts would be vastly more productive and charitable if you focused on being a witness in living your faith as you encounter people in actual life. If engaging with others must be done on social media, I wouldn’t post pictures/memes, but would focus on
Christlike, charitable discussion as the interactions present. In other words, don’t just put up a verse that will be lost in the quagmire and is not personal, but interact on and offline with charity, wisdom, and kindness, thereby demonstrating Christ in direct, person-to-person engagement with someone. Very few people will pay attention to or remember an impersonal Bible verse post, but many will remember your kind words and wisdom when you personally engage.

Thanks for that.

I should have mentioned that I’m recently disabled and housebound so don’t get a lot of opportunity to live out my Christian life face to face with others.

I guess I’m looking for creative ways that I can continue to evangelise.

You make some good points, the last thing I want to be is platitudinous. Thanks for taking the time to share and for your help.

God bless you. Whatever we do, will not bear fruit if God does not give it a grow. Many times, I believe, people who are doing their best don’t get to see many fruits. Sometimes, fruits are invisible, sometimes they come to live after years down the road, but sometimes, there are no fruits, because there was nobody to water (with Grace) the planted seeds through prayer.

There would be much less fruit, I believe, if there were no monks and nuns in monasteries around the world praying so much. In a real way they are just as much missionaries as the missionaries that go out and evangelise people in person. Without the prayers, the activities of the missionaries would not bear any fruit.

Be a missionary of prayer and when you feel you want to share something like a scripture verse through facebook. Do it! But know that what makes the difference between your image becoming a noise, is the prayer that is backing your endeavours to evangalise.

Perhaps you can look out for good material to share (perhaps make your own) and post a post a day, or post a week, whatever. But also, say a rosary for the Church to be fruitful with evangelisation.

Sorry for a long post, God bless you!

I post sometimes on Quora. A lot of people post questions and some are trolls, of course, But many seem to be really confused or desperate people with serious questions, and I try to give serious answers. A lot of girls post “How can I abort a month old fetus?” or “how can I get my boyfriend to stop beating me?” and it may be helpful to provide answers.
Just a thought.

I think if the people you interact with on social media remember you as kind, willing to engage in good faith discussion, and able to type in coherent, complete sentences, you’ll be way ahead. Those kind of direct interactions are going to be a lot more impactful than a Bible verse graphic. The internet is awash in memes and graphics and pithy one-liners. What’s missing is genuine conversations.

I find that sharing genuinely interesting or funny images or stories of modern or unusual saints tends to get more attention than the usual platitudes. ChurchPop does a lot of this.

I share things that interest me, even if they’re religious. These posts have led to one conversion and the benefit of some of my family members going to Confession before receiving Communion when the Church opened back up.

If there’s an aspect of the Bible that is really intriguing you this week, writing something short about what you get out of the verse would be better (I’d think) than just having one single verse and leaving it. (if the verse is powerful and relevant to current times, that’s another story, but still requires some push toward its relevance)…

People go to facebook to see what others are sharing, and to share themselves. Whether they’re inundated or not, they have the option to log off or mute someone’s posts if it’s too much. So, in the end, you’re welcome to post whatever you want. Realize it may impact your audience when your posts are about non-religious topics though.

I get this --I’ve been battling cancer for twenty years and am rarely able to get out other than taking care of my teen kids and such. It’s obvious your heart is yearning to minister to others, and that’s a beautiful quality. I wish you well, friend.
