Hello,

I am on the verge of throwing something, thankfully I have a place to air a grievance and ask for community assistance. Facebook and their (every cuss word in the book) selves see it fit to have “pages to like” such as the Blessed Virgin Mary and label her (and others) as “fictional characters.” I’ve about had it, does anyone have any idea how we can erupt angrily at their blasphemies and restore truth? I will not “unlike” some pages which have this flaw, we need to fix it and giving up is not the answer.

Report the pages as being offensive.

Make a page about The Blessed Mother and others who are being labeled “fictional characters” and tell the Truth about Mary and others. Encourage others to join your page(s) and spread the word.

My first instinct would be to find pages for other religious figures and see if they are labeled similarly. If they aren’t, then a case could be made just on those grounds to have the labels removed.

Facebook is a great time waster. Groups come and go. Users are not supposed to start pages under an alias, and it appears that’s what Virgin Mary impersonators are doing. For them, it is fiction…because they’re not her. Trust me. I’d suggest it’s not worth your anger. Proclaim the truth yourself, and start a group of your own honoring her.

My thoughts exactly. Why would anyone who doesn’t believe in Mary waste their time pretending to be Her? Just another example of the sad state the world is in. I wish it could be different, but…sigh, shaking head, shutting eyes

I suggest you get hold of yourself and try to calm yourself.

People have not believed in the Blessed Virgin since she walked the earth.

Her Son asked The Twelve, “Do you wish to leave, too?” when so many stopped following Him after the events we know as the Bread of Life discourse.

You may wish to reflect upon the dispositions of Peter, of Paul, and of John as they confronted the situation of the Church in its first decades. It would seem a sounder and more effective strategy. They, after all, faced a much larger task than you do.

I tend to fight fire with fire by spamming with everything Catholic including all the novenas, prayers, videos and esp. the videos of Bishop Barron. Also, if they get too nasty I will block the guilty person. They have spammed me first and often. Peace:thumbsup:

As it says in Scripture, “Be angry, but do not sin.” A rant will just make you look foolish. A calm, reasoned reply will perhaps get a hearing. Simply point out that there are alternatives to the word “fictional,” which is offensive to believers for the reason that it makes it look like they’re saying Mary or whoever is fake. Suggest an alternative - “Religious figure” or the like. That way, even if they’re unwilling to say “Historical Figure,” it sounds better than “fictional.”

I’m not sinning, just using text to demonstrate frustration. Thanks for the heads up!

I presume this is the page the OP is concerned about.

facebook.com/pages/Blessed-Virgin-Mary/112818752067263

This is one of a number of “informational” pages on Facebook. I’ve seen this same thing before with the page on Jesus.

You can suggest a different category. I clicked the “Edit” button on the upper right, and put in “Public Figure” (one of Facebook’s standard categories for these pages).

If enough people do this, perhaps the “Fictional Character” tag will go away.

It’s clear those in charge of Facebook, or whomever created that page, have zero clue what they’re talking about.

This one also (defaming Saint Michael the Archangel): m.facebook.com/profile.php?id=106256482746756

Revisiting this thread a few months later, I checked the page. The Blessed Mother is now listed as a “Public Figure”. Much better. 👍
