Tks everyone for your replies. One thing I have noticed about Facebook is how fabulous everybody seems to be: lots of friends, great meals, great holidays, great interiors, wonderful children, + the selfies which are always damn ugly? (not). You know, some people actually have 1000 friends? I can’t imagine how they get through Christmas or manage to manage all those Christmas cards & ‘happy Christmases’… I must say that after looking at everybody’s ‘lives’, I feel a bit worn out & inadequate.
I guess I’m more of a ‘less is more’ kind of person.🤷

I think it’s part of human nature - we post and share what we enjoy, what we are proud of, what makes us happy. The “normal”, boring, sad, tedious, unhappy, mundane stuff gets left off. And since there’s only a “like” button - and how many “likes” determines what comes up first and most on your feed - it’s those same happy/wonderful posts that get the most likes and thus show up first/more.

I know there are a handful of people I have unfriended or stopped following, not because what they were posting was wrong - but because I just couldn’t deal with my own sinful envy of their good fortune. The few of them I know in real life are actually sweet, humble, nice folks who’d never dream of bragging - so now I just catch up with them in real life, where there aren’t constant photos and comments about their trips…just a “oh, we were on vacation last week” and a “How fun!” from me 😃

Also - my personal rule is that I never have more than 150 friends, and I never friend anyone who has over 300 (unless they are a close relative). That made things a bit weird at first since I didn’t friend some relatives and co-workers, but did others. I just explained that I have to keep my friend list small or I get too overwhelmed - that it’s just the way “I” facebook. Amazingly no one has gotten their feathers ruffled over it.

I had facebook eons ago. When it was first made available to everyone and I was much younger I used it quite a bit. One lent I decided to give up facebook and after lent was over I felt much calmer and at peace so I decided to get rid of it altogether. That was over 7 years ago and I never went back. Frankly it stressed me out, caused feelings of inadequacy and envy and encouraged gossip in my part. It wasn’t for me but doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for other people.

Like other people said, it’s hard to create a ‘fake’ FB account, around 2 years ago I tried because I needed it to download coupons but my account was flagged and deleted 🤷🤷

For me, twitter is better because there you can truly be completely anonymous and just go by a handle and you have a lot of control of who to follow, block, mute etc. It is also very hard for people to find you on twitter unless you tell them your handle hehe

Now, if you want to keep in touch with people then twitter is not really useful. It’s great to get instantaneous news, updates and be generally aware of what interests you though.

Thanks Everyone, Cradlejourney I think ur right about it being human nature: to put our best foot forward. But it’s not the whole story is it? Only a select glimpse. It’s a bit deceiving that way. It’s like Christmas: you’d never think that the Creator of Christmas was born poor in a stable with No Presents!! Myer/Walmart/Harrods will never present it that way. The Christmas of ‘the shops’ is a bit deceiving also, isn’t it: all that glitters & sparkles. 🍿:extrahappy::christmastree1:
