And, the church has also discerned that the Catholic Charismatic renewal is an authentic expression of the faith. You don’t have to participate in these types of services, but they are considered authentic by the church.

For the record, this type of spirituality is not appealing to me. It was not appealing to me as a Baptist and it still isn’t, but I strong object to denying that something with a Biblical basis is somehow not Catholic. Arguments like that make Protestants feel justified in declaring that the Catholic Church is no longer Christ’s Church.

I was at a life teen retreat where they were doing this. They were laying their hands on the teens and they were “fainting” or “passing out”, laying on the floor “unconscious” for a few mins. Some of the teens that went up there, it didn’t happen to them. I didn’t feel comfortable and it seemed weird so I didn’t partake. One of my friends, at the time who was very involved in church did it and “passed out”. I would have to guess they were faking it, because said friend is now an atheist. I don’t know how you can have that happen to you and you all of a sudden become an atheist 10 years later.

On the contrary this is to be expected for some. I mean for one look at Isreal. Delivered from Egypt one day, building a golden calf the next. Or the parable of the rich man:

“He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’

29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’

30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’

31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”

That’s true. Or maybe it was real for others and he wanted to play along. I don’t really talk to him ever, so I haven’t really had a chance to confront him on his contradiction. If I do ever see him and he talks about his atheism I’m gonna jump right on him about it though lol.

Brendan Case told us that himself. I Googled Pope Francis letters of June 1st 2014 and discovered that the letter was actually written to the CHARISMATICS to which, I assume Mr. Case belongs. He made it sound as if the letter from the pope was sent to him personally.

Oh I think our diocese approved. They were not clear that this was a charismatic event and we’re confused why that was not mentioned.
