My friend said that she has doubts regarding Christianity, but that every since she prayed for faith, she just can’t walk away from Christ? So, she converted. Is this God giving her faith?
Is the crucial thing at hand her will? Her mind may harbor thoughts, but I suppose that so long as she is consciously “willing” to believe, that is faith? Or is that something like a “work”?
This seems to complicate the fact: is it a head or heart issue, or in some sense both?
I am hoping for the best for your friend. Please pray for me as well. I have tried to believe, and wish that God will guide me into all truth.

Faith is a gift. Like any other gift it has to be opened. So it is not sufficient for faith to be given as a grace by God. It must be opened, or co-operated with, by a believer.
And what you describe in your friend sounds like faith.
“to whom shall we go Lord, you have the words of eternal life”.
It sounds like your friend has the essential realization that nothing and no one else will suffice but Christ.
