Faith doubt with issues in church

Hello I have come here because I am in need of tips. I have always had a deep Faith in the Catholic Church but now with the recent case of abuse in Pennsylvanias Catholic church and other cases of abuse have made me doubt my faith in the church .It makes me so angry that the church clergy has covered these cases up for many years and makes me doubt if priests are trustworthy anymore. And seeing that the vatican has no comment on this topic makes-it worse. I really want to continue my faith as a Catholic but these types of things make me doubt and think of leaving the church eventhough I have not been directly affected.

The clergy issue has been around for quite some time. Many years ago, it was believed that a sexual predator could be “fixed”. One of the public school principals had a nervous breakdown and many parents support him during his recovery period. In 2018, it would be an unforgivable crime. I read a link to those who had been accused, sued, or otherwise documented as a problem. One of the individuals had been listed for something that happened in 1920. I can not change what happened, but I can pray for those who misbehaved, the victims, and for the Church. These problems occur in teaching and other professions, not just in the Church. I believe prayer can help. I have to work harder myself.

Abuse doesn’t just exist in the Catholic Church. It exists in the public school system, the healthcare industry, daycare, and countless other places. That doesn’t forgive the clergy who have committed these disgusting vile crimes but are you going to stop sending your kids to school, the doctor, the mall, the library? Are you going to lock yourself away? The Catholic Church will always be target #1 because that’s what the deceiver, the evil one, satan wants. He wants to destroy the Church, the True Church of our Savior Christ Jesus. Just my 2 cents, God bless you.

An analogy that’s helped me with this issue is this: would you quit getting medical treatment because you know there are some incompetent doctors around?

Something else I’d suggest is to read a good book or two or three about the history of the catholic church as well as some books on spiritual warfare.

Prayer would be helpful too. I’m going to try and go to Mass 2X/week (on weekdays, that is) for a while because of this - I usually only go on Sundays.
