I’m an officer of our parish retreat council and the question came up last week. How can we get more small faith sharing groups to meet. Does anyone have any ideas on formal/structured programs that are “free” that small groups can use to guide them in their group faith sharing. We’ve completed the Renew program and are looking for more ideas.

I too share your interest for our parish. We have about 9 small groups going now in a 2 year old parish and have always used the same topic for all groups, so far all bible studies. I would like to see a number of different offerings for the groups so that there are a variety of topics parishioners can choose from. You could have a few bible studies, one on the Catechism, one on Pro-Life Issues, etc. There is a source available I would like to try, which is not free but is inexpensive which can be found at ninevehscrossing.com/. Dr. Ray Guarendi, a Catholic layman has developed that ministry and offers a DVD with 13, 1/2 hour sessions on “What Catholics Really Believe”. His presentations are done with a priest, and are always backed by scripture and orthodox Church teaching, but are light and fun to participate in. They also offer an inexpensive workbook for attendees to use. So give them a look and see if that would be interesting to your parishioners.

Peace
