Question to all…

If the Catholic Church says it is okay to believe in private revelation as long as it does not contradict with faith and morals, why can we not talk about it???

That is – revelations that promote living in Holy Love – Loving God above all things and neighbor as self, greater devotion to Jesus in the Blessed sacrament and encouragement to make daily holy hours or at least once/week; praying the rosary daily, growing and being perfected in all the virtues and above all in dying to one self so that we can truly live in the Divine Will.

The church in its’ time will approve such private revelations that speak the truth, as a good mother will do for its’ children – BUT our Mother (the church) has given us some leeway to think for ourselves as long it does not contradict with faith and morals.

This is my own take and not based on any Church teaching or document.

A private revelation is targeting a specific individual. Like in the case of a speech you target a specific audience. When you share the private revelation you are making it public. This is the equivalent of using the same speech for a totally different audience, and that can be a source of a lot of problems. For example look at the speech from Benedict XVI about Islam and violence and how it was misunderstood when heard in a different context.

However, a private revelation could be made public under specific conditions and given the extent of the impact I believe that is appropriate to leave it to Church to make such a calling.

We must remember that private revelations do not add anything new! They just help the individual into a better understanding of what has been universally revealed long time ago. If they are to confuse someone about the universal revelation then they better stay private.

You don’t have it quite right; it is ok to believe in Church-approved private revelations, e.g., Lourdes, Fatima, Knock, O.L. Guadalupe, etc. It is not ok to discuss private revelations that aren’t approved by the Church, thus CAF’s guidelines on the same.
