To everyone on CAF,

I’ve seen a lot of people on CAF who use fallacies, and it bugs me. Before you can tackle an argument, start an argument, or engage in an argument, whether its about religion or politics or history or whatever, you have to familarize yourself with fallacies. A fallacy “renders the argument invalid in whole”. Below is a link to an article on fallacies. Please read it. Thank you!

This thread needs major props. Too few people these days run their arguments through the wringer of logic before they put 'em out. 😉
 
Very true, sir. I think the best way to handle this is to be a pretense-moderator. If you see someone whose argument includes a logical fallacy, you should point it out in that thread – according to the final sentence of the article you cited: “[Fallacious arguments] can often be (re)written in such a way that they fit a valid argument form. The challenge to the interlocutor is, of course, to discover the false premise, i.e. the premise that makes the argument unsound.”

To wit: I am glad I don’t like froglegs. Because if I did, then I’d probably eat them. And I don’t want to do that because they taste terrible!
 
Which particular fallacies would that then be? I think it would be helpful if those fallacies were mentioned so as it can be discussed better.
 
Posting links to sites describing the nature of logical fallacies could well set this forum on a slippery slope!
