as peter 3 says
“where is the promise of His coming?”

since 1830 the US protestant church has adopted the false doctrinal position
of a rapture BEFORE the tribulation.
Neatly they have tossed out the scriptures and read between the lines to come
up with a doctrine that is unsupportable.
And so they have prepared the churches to EXPECT the Lord to come and take
them before the tribulation.
So as peter says above, when they become disheartened that the Lord delays,
they like the virgins will sleep or go about their business,
or false christs will arise,
or they will fall away from the faith.

The first half of the tribulation is going to be a bad time on earth, to be sure.
but the second half is going to see the Wrath of God poured out.
The second half is what we as Christians will be rescued from.

the notion of a multi-phased Second Coming is inconsistent with Catholic teaching.

there is no body designated as the “US Protestant Church”

if you mean particular preachers, denominations or other sources, cite them please.

i expect it will go something like
Jesus is gathering everyone from across the earth in the rapture,
then he returns down to earth?

as to the churches in the US
the pre-tribulation rapture is a doctrine of many 'assembly of god ’ pentecostal,
and others. etc

i was on a board called rapture forums which as part of its rules is a
**PRE TRIB **RAPTURE BOARD and strickly forbids any debate or discussion
as to the truth or error of such a position…
of course i wanted to talk about it…and was booted off. forever,
that was most unchristian, no warning, just goodbye.

I have spoken with many Baptists that don’t agree with the pre tib rapture. My mother for instance read the whole Left Behind series but does not endorse much of it’s theology. I have never seen an illustration that tried to explain the order of events that made very much sense to me. It may not exactly be a false expectation if we aren’t told what exactly to expect?

It is incorrect to say that Protestants believe in the Rapture. There are quite a few Protestants who reject the Rapture also.

I used to believe in a pre-trib rapture (and many non-denominational, evangelical churches believe this), but after a more serious study of Scripture, have come to the conclusion that this is false. 1 Thes 4:15-16 clearly says, “For the Lord himself shall come down from heaven with commandment, and with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead who are in Christ, shall rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be taken up together with them in the clouds to meet Christ, into the air, and so shall we be always with the Lord.” (DR). 1 Cor 15:52 says, “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall rise again incorruptible: and we shall be changed.” (DR). Paul makes it clear that this will happen when Jesus returns, at “the last trumpet”. How can you have a “last trumpet” before the 7 trumpet judgements? My understanding is that when Jesus returns, he will give a shout (like a trumpet blast), and His people will meet Him in the air and accompany Him back to Earth, much like the people went out to meet and escort important visitors (Jesus entering Jerusalem on the donkeys colt might be a good example of this practice).

As far as Thalon’s initial concern about people being misled, I believe that is true. People will be drawn to the anti-Christ, believing that it can’t be The anti-Christ because the Rapture hasn’t occurred yet.
