False nuns and priests

Months ago, I’ve read a “true” story that someone wrote that “proves” Catholicism is false! I summarized the story here. As you read, hold on to your faith tightly…this affected me, and still bothers me.

The poster claimed he had a close friend who was a women. She lived as a devout Catholic and did many good works in the name of God. When she was old enough, she made arrangements to become a nun. After she arranged everything and went to a nuns’ hometown, she was to meet with the head nun who was the leader of the nuns’ organization. As the wannabe nun spoke with the head nun privately (i think at a desk), the head nun told her that before she officially confirms her decision to be a nun, there’s something she has to know.
The head nun told her that Jesus did not literally died for our sins! She said that the Catholic Church was actually arranged to help give people a purpose in life; to give them something to hope for, and to help the world be good. She continued by stating that the Pope knows this, and many Priests are aware of it too. She said Jesus’s sacrafice is just figurative, and wasn’t actually true. When the wannabe nun heard this, she burst into tears and was completely shocked from learning the “truth”.
She thought that perhaps this nun was troubled or corrupt, so she brought this to someone she thought was close to God. To test what the nun said, she went back to her Church to face her priest with this issue. When she notified her priest about what she “learned” from the head nun, she demanded to know the truth. Her priest said that what the head nun told her was true, and he was aware of all this the whole time (I think he asked her to keep this confidential too).
She had depression for long periods of time. She decided not to tell her mother the “truth”, since her mother was a fanatic for many years and probably wouldn’t be able to take it.
She did not become a nun since she heard the “truth” about Catholicism from the head nun, and was devastated to learn this.

What do you think about this story? I have searched constantly for the board I got it from but can’t find it. If I ever do, I’ll post it.
Do you think this story is true or false? Has it affected you?
Maybe there really are priests and nuns who THINK this is true…but it isn’t. OR…perhaps the Catholic Church is false, and the Pope as well as many Priests are aware that it is. Don’t get me wrong, I’m Catholic and certainly don’t want to believe that. I sincerely, truly hope that this story is false, because if it’s true then the world’s largest and most logical religion is false!
Any comments would be helpful.

If Christ did not die for our sins, then we are indeed the most pitiable of people … summarized from 1 Corinthians 15:19-20.
 
Btw, Why have we never heard about a fake Protestant minister who convert to Catholicism and said many evil things about Protestantism?

Makes you wonder doesn’t it?
 
It sounds a bit far fetched, but I have known some very unorthodox nuns.
 
This is a transparently obvious attempt of some atheiest or dare I say it…satanist trying to usurp the faith of believers everywhere. This doesn’t only attack Catholicism, but Christianity in general (although it focuses on Catholicism). I’m sorry if this affected you, but if it did then I fault the catecesis you experienced growing up.

A few years ago this may have had an effect on me as I was asking questions about Catholicism…but for anyone solidly grounded this is just another story with no basis other than heresay.

The reason you likely can’t find the story is that some Mod on that site probably deleted it or the poster took so much flack for the bad piece of fiction that he deleted it himself.

This does nothing but strengthen my belief in the Church. I for one don’t base my faith on what other people experience…I base it on my own knowledge experience…and that God-given charism called “faith.”
 
I personally do not give any credence to this story. It sounds like something made up by those who do not understand how intimate a relationship Catholics Christians actually *do *have with Christ.

I mean worst case scenario, a nun actually said this, some priests actually believe this. That does not make what they said true nor does it make Catholicism false.

I guess I would ask you a few questions to find out exactly where your shaken faith is at. Do you still believe in God? If yes, do you believe that Christ died for your sins? Do you still believe in Christianity? If you still believe in Christianity, do you believe the Bible is the inspired word of God? Do you believe the Catholic Church is Christian?

Why does gossip that you don’t even know if it is true effect your thinking to this extent?

And why do you post the same thread multiple times but just in a different forum?

This story is definatly false. The pope and some priests somehow have this knowledge that the sacrifice of Christ was fake but somehow no one has ever heard this idea and it has never leaked in 2000 years until this lady spoke to some progressive nun who didn’t believe it.

If Catholicism is false, then all of Christianity is false, so the protestant should not be trying to make this arguement.
 
I am sure the name of this ex-nun is all over the internet. How about a name?

Well, that does it for me! If the story is good enough for a devout Catholic woman (“women” in the story), who was a friend of a friend of the poster, whose message you can’t find, it’s good enough for me!

What did we ever do before these forums came about to teach us the truth about our 2000-year-old Church?

(Or perhaps I didn’t hang on to my faith tightly enough! :rolleyes: )

Sounds like one of those dopey anti-catholic urban legends or conspiracy theories gone amok. The number of people who would have to be involved to keep a secret of this magnitude secret strains credulity. If you point this out to some people, however, and ask them for proof, they will say, “Well, there isn’t any because it’s been covered up!” :rolleyes: Just like that moronic “Da Vinci Code.” That is why conspiracy theories are for small minded gossips.

I would advise you to toss this one in the rubbish bin with the rest of them.

Just because a person is a priest or a nun does not make them a Christian. There are and have been many in the faith that don’t know what it means to be a Christian. If you doubt this research the dark ages about 700C.E.
 
the original poster refers to a true story, but never quotes a true story. Oh, there is an urban legend floating around this post, but we are still waiting for a true story by reliable witnesses about people with names and verifiable details.

The story maybe true, but what they preached is a lie and an insult to Our Lord, don’t listen to the doctrine of devils.

It sounds very, very far fetched to me. I have a couple of friends I went to school with who are priests. We talk all the time and drink and laugh as we always did. We push the boundarys of the faith as far as they can go exploring theology and different faiths and conspracy stories. I have never heard this mentioned or even alluded to- to the contrary, their faith never ceases to inspire me.

Things like this used to interest me and worry me. Now I have enough experience and know enough genuine, honest, devout Catholics to know that the truth is simple service and a relationship with God.

For myself, proof or not proof about this, that or the other is not as important as the message. The truth of the message of the Gospel is what we accept into our hearts.
 
I myself am a former postulant of a religious order (the Society of Saint John Cantius).

Before, and after, I entered the postulancy I was told no such warning.

I mean, seriously, if such were true, you don’t think this fact would receive much more publicity? Would it even be possible for the Church to cover this up for 2000 years? Would so many hundreds (thousands?) of priests and religious martyr themselves for this faith if it were really only an inentional fabrication?

Exactly, and what about those who have left the priesthood and become involved with another Church? They’d be using this left right and centre!!! It would be posted all over the internet!
 
Sounds like this story was taken out of Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code. Nothing but anti-Catholic trash.

That really was quite an excellent sermon! He says so well what I was trying to explain but failed to do well just yesterday. I wonder have you heard non-Catholic responses to this sermon before? I also wonder, and I’m sorry if this belongs in a new thread, if anyone knows of more things like this I could send to a fundamentalist who doesn’t understand even the idea of authority, and to an Episcopalian who believes the Episcopal church is just as true as the Roman?

It is hard to challenge, I was thinking of printing it out and sending it to a few Churches around here, as they like to stick their leaflets through my door, so I’d like to return the favour.
I need to check copyright first, anyway if I find any more I’ll pass them on, problem is the private message facility is broken, so can’t contact people privately.
I haven’t heard any non Catholic responses to it, (yet) 😉
