Ugh, right?!? LOL.

I sent an email with a link to our house listing online…95% of the reason was b/c genetically, clutter runs in our family and my house has spent the past week in totally immaculate cleanliness…so I sent the email with the comment “I just wanted you all to see that the genetic code CAN be broken!!” – it was a joke, and the other 5% of the resoning was b/c I thought having a listing online was just pretty cool - -it never even occurred to me that some might be “miffed” or “put off” by the fact that the asking price is right there…(it’s considerably higher than we paid 2yrs ago; we got very lucky, I claim no responsibility, never have). So my SIL sends me this email…

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuure you sent the link to show us how clean your house was LOL! Had nothin’ to do w/showing what you’re getting for it huh cid:000901c61aaa$b9c81d60$E90BA8CF@myhome.westell.com?

So I sent back a clarification email…and she sent back "oh goodness, I was just ribbing you!!’

Suppose money should just be off limits – tho in my defense…I didn’t even think about the fact that the price was listed on there…

Well, I think your issue with your SIL is much deeper-- jealous type is she? Ignore her!

The listing price of houses is public information available to any and everyone. It’s not a secret. Neither is the appraised value and how much you pay in taxes-- anyone can see that right over the internet.

My house is currently on the market and everyone knows what I listed it for. This is a no brainer-- your SIL has issues, not you.

Yes, this individual is very very money conscious…she’s always had to work super hard for everything, no assistance from her parents who paid 100% for her sister (who is now a bit of a loser) and so forth…she’s always been of the “no one knows how much we struggle” – so now I’m sure every time I mention a price that’s too high or similar, she’ll mutter something about our “real estate killing” or whatever…but yes, it’s definitely her, and my family’s old-school mentality of “private matters” – of course, that thought train is why I had NO clue about mortgage/insurance/PMI/HELOCs etc. until I was face to face with the lender feeling like a 10yr old…no one discusses money in our family, but being in the military, our salaries are public knowledge…you want to know? Go look it up. She also made the comment when my dd was born that “well, even if it’s just $50/mo, you still get more money for having another kid” (which is completely false, it’s With or Without dependents, not how many) – funny how people think b/c you’re military, you have no expenses…the govt pays for everything…lol. Say nothing of the 3rd world housing conditions, the cruddy healthcare, and the fact that our base salaries are far less than comprable in the civilian sector, but you can’t tell people that…they just hear “they pay your rent and your healthcare, what money issues could you possibly have!!!”

Have you heard of the book Toxic Inlaws? Maybe it would help!

Seriously, I avoid negative people like that. Just remember never to take any of that on yourself as it is all her baggage and her problem. I don’t own anyone else’s issues.
