The family of a student at the Milton academy in Massachusetts has filed a suit against the school and in essense is blaming the school for the son’s participating in a sexual act with a minor (for which he was expelled). In the suit, the parents called the school “in loco parentis” and felt that they should have been more responsible in keeping their son and others like him out of trouble. What’s outrageous about this suit is the parent’s apparent refusal to accept any responsiblity themselves while carelessly playing the blame game. In this litiginous society, doesn’t anyone accept responsibility anymore for anything? The kid did something wrong and should have suffered some consequences for it. Period. Only in our current moral mess of a society could you possibly reap financial benefits for doing something wrong.

It does sound like the school has a large part of the responsibility if the accusations of the parents are true.
The Driscoll family, which has sent multiple generations to the school and continues to enroll one of its five children there, said that once the boys were expelled, Milton embarked on an aggressive public relations campaign in an effort to portray the matter as ''an isolated, uncharacteristic incident."
This is endemic in our society and causing major damage to our children.

It is true that the school has some ownership but I think that the parents need to acknowledge their son’s irresponsible behavior and the resulting justified consequences.

*"…and its Upper School Handbook, which is given to every student and sets out detailed rules governing the campus, is virtually silent on the subject, according to the suit.

''The message at Milton Academy thus appears to be ‘anything goes’ when it comes to sex," according to the suit."*

**I am sure the handbook is not detailed on many subjects, such as murder, carjackings, WMD, and other matters that these parents should have taught their children before sending them off to school.

Oh, and the school is supposed to take the place of the parents while the students are on campus? Apparently that doesn’t include any punishments, no matter what “crime” was purpetrated (sp?).**
