Found out today that our parish is going to use a Family Catechesis model for Religious Ed next year. The program is found at familyformation.net/
Basically, there will be one monthly gathering - students in grade k-6 will meet in classes with their teachers while the parents meet in a separate gathering - where they are prepared to provide the weekly home lessons.
If your parish uses a Family Catechesis model - either with this program or another, I would love to know how it is working. We are in a suburban area - and there are no other parishes nearby that are using it. Many, many of our students are “drop offs” or brought by grandparents, not to mention the joint custody issues, missing classes for sports, forget their books, etc. Minimal parent involvement - few are attending Mass regularly, some only attend Mass when we go as a class.
I can see some pros & cons to this approach - definitely a move away from the norm. It is either going to be the best thing we have ever done, or it will fall flat on its face.
