Your family’s behavior sounds like that of immature children or teenagers. No offense. Did they stick their tongue out at you too?

My family mocks me all time whenever I’m home to visit merely for following the Church’s precepts. Next Christmas I intend not to come home and to celebrate Christmas with my friends.
My family is like that too. I didn’t go home for Christmas this year and spent it with friends. We all went to midnight mass. Best Christmas ever!

BINGO! They did it not to mock Jesus, they did it to annoy you. Like I said, not untypical. I’m sorry it hurt so much, but I’m sure Jesus understands. He must appreciate your trying, and he loves you very much for that. He also knows that your family probably doesn’t even believe it was really Him in the host, and that they were just being childish to get at you and that will cut them some slack. Still a sin, but nearly as bad as blaspheming Jesus intentionally.

Many of us have difficult families and some of us have circumstances where its best to stay as separate as possible. Its OK. I had to completely detach from my own mother due to abuse. Its hurtful, but you must protect yourself - you have great value as a child of God. So sorry this took a big giant bite out of your Christmas joy, but God may have turned it to the good if it is the spark that gets you to start looking out for your own peace more. I know I had such a moment, and it was a Godsend though it didn’t seem so at the time.

Could they have low blood sugar? Or was feeling nauseous from fasting?

Either circumstance would change the candy from the category of food to the category of medicine and would be allowed.
You are so correct I am a diabetic and I carry snacks with me and sometimes have to take a few bites during Mass to get bllod sugar level back up to normal.

Unfortunately, we often find that our family is the last to see a change in us as we grow and mature. Your family remembers you from before you became more devout and so sees you as putting on an act to annoy them and so they annoy you back. No, not the most mature behavior.

It sounds as though your brother took advantage of your non-Christian/Catholic sister having candy and passed it around deliberately to “get your goat”. Of course it worked because he was profaning his communion.

Since you don’t live at home most of the year, you usually avoid their behavior if they attend Mass at any time other than Christmas/Easter and they don’t see that your devotion and piety are real and not put on.

Many school breaks don’t coincide with Easter so you can still come home during break but spend Easter with your friends and school chapel. Make your plans for Christmas at the beginning of school next year. Perhaps you can plan to spend a week or so at home toward the end of your break, but either stay at school or with friends for Christmas itself.

Please continue to pray for your family and treat your parents well. They will learn from your example and you don’t want them to think Christians also play ‘tit for tat’ and treat people badly on purpose.

No. This is sheer disrespect and irreverence for the Blessed Sacrament. They also don’t believe in Hell.

Prior to Mass my brother was bragging about how he once dared my non-baptized sister-in-law to receive communion and she didn’t like the texture and taste so she spit it out after chewing it.

My sister-in-law had a bag of candy in her purse and my brother started eating it and passing it around.
Oy!

I go to mass every first Saturday of the month for the Our Lady of Fatima devotion and then pray the rosary afterwards. One of the prayers during the devotion contains the phrase “We want to atone for the many offenses committed against Jesus and you”. I will keep this mind for the next Fatima devotion.

My sympathies. My family are for the most part atheists but they do not mock my beliefs.

Do you act “holier than thou?” Because from this end it seems that way.

My dad’s diabetic, yet he wasn’t the one eating. We had been eating all evening.
