I’ve heard something about fasting for life’s issues on wed and fridays. What is this and how does it work?

Fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays is an old tradition. Wednesdays and Fridays were always held as penitential days, and fasting is a penance!

Beyond that, you can perform works of penance for a petition or intention, much as you can pray for a special intention. Many religious orders fast and/or abstain in reparation for the many sins of men, for the souls of deceased members of their congregations, or for private intentions. I think that fasting for life issues is a beautiful and worthy intention to sacrifice for.

Do you know what organization is promoting this practice again? It sounds like something that Priests for Life would do. Truly, a worthy practice. I must do that today!

The pro-life group that I attend at the local Catholic church has a calendar every month that everyone selects a day to fast for life issues.

There is always someone fasting everyday.

Also, now that abstaining from meat is not required during the year, except during Lent, we are still encouraged to abstain from meat on Fridays for life issues, especially for the end of abortion.

As I understand it, fasting from meat on Fridays is not required, but it is still a recommended practice. I think it’s a very easy way to give up something and still be able to eat. I get too woozy if I skip a meal or have bread and water instead.

One could also try just eating smaller meals during the week, and/or cut out desserts for the month of October, which is Respect Life month. It’d be good for the waistline, too!

I never heard of Wed. being a regular fast day, just on Ash Wed.

Peace,
Mimi

oh no! no desserts in oct?? that is a food group for me. I just finished an ice cream bar before I read this.

me again. Didn’t eat on friday - started feeling a little woozy at work. I think I dropped my brain sometime during my shift. When I was finally able to pick it back up again I think i’d stepped on it a few times, because I couldn’t get it together the rest of the night. I was desperate for God to hear me. I hope he did.
