I was just wondering if it is ok to fast or practice some type of mortification on a feast day. I usually do a Wednesday and Friday mortification and was told I should not do them on Feast days, such as the Conversion of St. Paul which just happened on a Wednesday this year.

My personal practice is to not fast on a feast, but that is using “feast” in a less technical sense than the “Feast of the Conversion of St Paul”. Technically, I refrain from fasting on solemnities, by extrapolation from Canon 1251 (**emphasis **added):
Can. 1251 Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
