Fatalism unCatholic?

Is it in line with Church teachings to say that one is “destined” or “fated” to be somewhere? It sounds like it would conflict with free will, but at the same time, if God wants you to be somewhere, you’re going to be there. It does seem like determinism would be more compatible with Catholic theology. Just curious.
 
As it has been explained to me, it is in line with Catholic teaching that we are predestined to encounter certain situations and choices, however we are not predestined in the Calvinistic sense of how that situation will end or what the result of it will be.
