Father Mike Schmitz

Hi all! I am in the process of joining the church (plan to start RCIA next year), so I spend a lot of time doing research and trying to learn more about the faith. While doing this today, I came upon a priest by the name of Mike Schmitz. I watched a few of his videos and found him to be very charming and knowledgeable. I also think he is powerful in that his voice and the way he carries himself connects to the younger generation well. I thought I’d share a link to a playlist of his videos. If you have the time (it’s rather long), I also highly recommend hearing his talk about same sex attraction. This is a teaching that I struggle with, and hearing him lay it out in such a loving way really resonated with me. Just wanted to share!

I quite like him, he’s smart and he doesn’t dumb things down but he talks to you like he would be talking to a friend. I also like the fact he’s kind of goofy sometimes.

I have seen the links to his you tube videos but haven’t watched any.
I am in my 60’s, so I am not sure I would like his presentations. I can see he tries to be funny and cool so he probably appeals to the younger kids. I tried watching one last night, but he started out trying to be funny and a few smirks before I guess he got serious. I didn’t know if he tries to be funny all the way through the video or just the beginning. please let me know if he is worth watching.

I hate to do this, because I don’t want to derail the thread but some people are just like that. I know that I like to crack jokes and make people laugh because that’s how I get to talk to them. I have Asperger’s Syndrome so it’s not always easy for me to talk to people and I like his presentation because it makes him more approachable for me. now there’s an age difference but my mother is in her fifties and she likes him too. Obviously you’re entitled to your opinion but even if he’s not your cup of tea and that’s fine I think what we could do is appreciate what he does do to help people. The cool thing about preferences they are preferences, ultimately having a different opinion on this than I do isn’t going to affect either of our salvations. I would like to tell the OP, that if this is what they like then check it out.

I like Fr. Mike as well. It’s true that he’s funny and tries to be engaging, but he’s also orthodox in his teachings, if you listen to his talks.

He is definitely for the younger people. I love him and i feel like he has made a big difference.

He starts off his speeches with references to the pop culture, very superficial at first to draw the attention of the younger/secular people, and then spends the second half using that example in relation to the gospel and goes very ‘deep’ territory.

Someone mentioned that what he says were actually very traditional before, but I’m not educated on the church so…

He’s definitely more for the people that are more light hearted

Glad he reaches the younger crowd though. I would like to hear it without so much of the cracking jokes.
