Fatima, the Anti-Christ, and the Pope

The other day, I overhead a Catholic talking with someone else about his studies. He had been a sedevacantist, but had been persuaded that the papacy was genuine and was in the process of being received into the Church. He did mention something interesting, however. He said there was a prophecy that a Pope would reign for twenty years, and his successor would reign for a short time, and then his successor would be the Anti-Christ. He said this had something to do with the prophecy at Fatima. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks! God Bless!

It is probably nonsense.

Is this the ones about how X amount of popes were prophesized in a Nostradamus type way, and how there’s like, only one more prophesized in the list, so after that it must be end times or something. Really, it is nonsense.

As for Fatima, you’ll hear plenty of people taking that far, far out of context. I doubt it had anything legitimately to do with Fatima, although I’m sure the story concocts some absurd connection to the two.

Basically, although I’m not sure what you’re talking about, and though I have no sources right now, I’m assuring you that these prophecies are bunk. From my experience, they tend to be.

Yes - evem with approved apparitions there are always a few loony tune types who will insert their own strange ideas about the end of the world, ant-christ etc.

The bible + magisterium teaches that Peter is the rock and the gates of hell will not overcome the Pope.

Stick to the scriptures + catechism and therein will be all you need for growth as a christian and salvation.

Even approved apparations such as Lourdes are not required to be followed and there are plenty of loony interpretations of the non approved ones as well (particularly garabandal).

As others have said, it’s just loony-tunes stuff. Actually, I’ve heard something similar but not emanating from Fatima but from some supposed prophecies of a Saint Malachi (?—I think that was the name but I’m not sure). There are always a few oddballs…
 
I know what he is talking about…let me tell you about how I found it and what it is…I was doing a search on the internet and I came by this website that claimed to be a prophesy of St Malachy, I will try to find it and give you a link. Anyway, it said that after pope JPII the next one would be from Africa and be Benedict XVI. OK now we are at 50% accuracy but interesting so I read on…Then he says that he will only serve a few years and die…just as you heard…as it turns out, this person wrote about this long long long account of what turn out to be end times (he says prophesy, I say fiction) and he makes his book available for free online. Then I found out that there is actually a prophesy of St Malachy, but it doesn’t end like the book does. They do mention that the last pope will be Peter, a name none has taken since the first pope. There are plenty of websites about that. They do indicate that there is only one pope after JPII then the rapture. As the pope is no longer with us (because of the rapture) the anti-christ seduces the world and becomes Pope Peter…
other versions say Peter is holy and dies a martyr in an Iraqi jail.
See for yourself…oh btw, the fictional book…was removed from it’s website. I found it in my bookmarked pages…it is gone.

What i know is that the true Malachy prophecy ends with the Glory of Olive (Benedict XVI). Peter the Roman was just added by the fictionist or storytellers.
 
Perhaps it has something to do with:

‘Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of the antichrist.’

Which is a quote from Melanie Mathieu’s version of the secrets of La Salette.
 
From my understanding it was St.James who propehsized about the amount on Popes to come and that there will be only 1 more after B16 ( or Notradamus used something St.James said to come up with this prediction) that is what i read in a book that interpreted his predictions. Also to my understanding the anti-christ will rule a political union , will he not?? The largest political union ( political union such as EU ). Thats what ive come to understand from persons and from reading parts of revelations.

And if it is the St. Malachy one, it appears that it only appeared quite some years after the saint died. Thus, the years in between are beautifully prophesized, and the ones after ever more cryptic and vauge. They are not credible prophesies.

And the so-called “prophecies” of St Malachy are not even his. They were proven to be forgeries.
 
The greatest part about all the sites out there devoted to this, is they are mostly from evangelicals, who claim to use the Bible alone, yet they will pick up someone’s supposed prophecy from 1200-1300 years after the canon was closed and say that is from God and they believe it.
