Where are your favorite places to donate? What organizations are stellar in your book? And why?

P.S. This week is the second collection for the Campaign for Human Development, the branch of the USCCB that gave ACORN millions of dollars…just so you know…

I nominate:

Mobile Loaves and Fishes - one of the most excellently organized groups I’ve ever seen. Has a huge ecumenical participation and is even popular with non-religious. The founder has a crystal-clear understanding of his mission and the mission of the charity.

Aid to the Church in Need - again, awesome leadership and concrete action. Builds bridges between religions and advocates for the persecuted.

We give to the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal for the help they give to the poor, also Aid to the Church in Need. There is also a St. Jude Home for Children which is a Catholic home for abused children in the Las Vegas area which we’ve donated to. These organizations all use our money wisely.

Your local Catholic Charities affiliate. Catholic Charities has helped a countless number of our parishioners, and they get the majority of my donation money.

Our pastor is even considering canceling the CCHD collection and giving the money to Catholic Charities instead.

My local Catholic Charties, my brother & I were adopted through them so our family has always donated to CC, we are also hoping to adopt through them 😃

My faveorite charities are:
The home my sis lives in (she is mentally handicapped)
Catholic charities
A local charity for familys of women with breast cancer to help pay for meds and other needs
It seems like ther is always a local family who suffered a tragedy people are raising money for, we usually put money in those
My DH is very involved in a mens halfway house.

My comic book store generally has a donation box for people with cancer or terminal illnesses. So I donate to that a lot. I also donate to the Christmas fund their. The fund sponsors needed families over seas. At least this way I know all the donations go directly to the families. Also Toys for Tots.
