Did anyone see the top 100 country duets countdown on CMT?
I was happy to see alot of my favorites in this, but I thought they should have been in at least the top 20. I couldn’t believe the number 1, but I should have known, since it’s one of the most overated songs of all time: “Islands in the Stream”. What is an island in a stream anyway? Oh well, at least it wasn’t Tim and Faith. In my opinion, the number 1 pick should have been “Luckenbach, Texas”. Waylon and Willie, what else can I say?

Some of my other favorites that did make it were:

“I Fall to Pieces” by Aaron Neville and Trisha Yearwood
“How’s the World Treating You?” by Allison Krause and James Taylor
“When I Said I Do” by Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black
“Rainy Night in Georgia” by Conway Twitty and Sam Moore
“Murder on Music Row” by George Strait and Alan Jackson

What are your favorites? (By the way, it didn’t have to make it in the countdown.)

A personal favorite of mine was Willie and Toby: “Beer For My Horses”

I’m a classics kind of guy:
Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn
George Jones & Tammy Wynette
Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner

But there are a few that I REALLY LIKE:
I’m more into the 'once in a lifetime duets…those that do not occur regularly.

Pancho & Lefty: Willie & Merle (1983)
Reasons to Quit: Willie & Merle (1983)

Whiskey Lullaby: Brad Paisley & Allison Krauss (2004)

I’m Not Gonna Do Anything Without You: Mark Wills & Jamie O’Neal (2002)

Brotherly Love: Keith Whitley & Earl Thomas Conley (1991)

Too Many Times: Earl Thomas Conley & Anita Pointer (1985)

Somewhere in the Vincity of the Heart:
Shenandoah & Allison Krauss (1995)

what nobody nominated Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias? snapped on this thread by mistake, because performances like that one are part of the reason I dislike country music (except of course for Patsy Kline).

Kenny Rogers & Dottie West
Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton
Loretta Lynn & Conway Twitty
Willie Nelson w/anyone… special nod to Willie and Julio Iglesias
George Jones & Tammy Wynette
Aaron Neville & Linda Ronstadt

Murder on Music Row was the most overlooked song in history. It would make my top 5, no doubt.

I always liked it when Travis Tritt and Marty Stuart would hook up in the early 90’s. Remember “The Whiskey Aint Working?”

“Brotherly Love” by Whitley and Conley. Oh yeah, good stuff there.

Anything Waylon and Willie! 👍

I know Garth and Trisha have a new single out, but I’m NOT impressed with this duet.

My favourite duets are:

Dolly Parton and Vince Gill - “I will always Love You”
Tim McGraw and Faith Jill - “Its Your Love”
Vince Gill, Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs " Go Rest High on that Mountain"

And Just recently I enjoyed Reese Witherspoon and Joaquin Pheonix performing a cover version of “Jackson” from the movie Walk the Line.

Didn’t think a Toronto boy knew his Country Music huh?

Definitely Willie and Toby’s “Beer for My Horses.”

A close second for me is Randy Travis and Clint Eastwood singing “Smoking the Hives.” It’s terrible, but has that “I can’t help it it’s like watching a train wreck” quality.

Kenny Rogers & Dottie West
Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton

oh yea and the 'Judds"

Alan Jackson & Jimmy Buffett…

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere…

**Oooohhhh, I love this one. Dance in the car to this one! How? No clue, but I do 👍 **

I still think George Strait should do a ‘guy’ duet with Joe Nichols, since both their voices are somewhat similar.

I agree, they would be great together. But then again, any duet with George Strait would be a success. His other duets were awesome… the one he did with Alan, and the one with Frank Sinatra, “Fly me to the Moon”.

I’m a big George Strait fan. I wish he and Conway Twitty could have gotten together for a duet. I think George could share in Conway’s title of “the best friend a song ever had”. I can’t think of anybody else in country music other than those two, where I like every single song they sing.
