I thought I would start a new thread on favorite books, organizations, websites for the family. Do you listen to Dr. James Dobson from Focus on the Family, Dr. Laura, or someone else. Do you have a favorite book or website on family relationships? Dr. Dobson helped us raise our children. Now that our kids are grown, I often refer to this book. “Parenting Your Adult Child” a helpful book written by two Christian men. Some examples of chapters are: "When the Nest Isn’t Emptying, Conflicts Over Lifestyle Issues, Becoming an In-law and a Grandparent, Meeting Your Own Needs, Developing a Confident Growing Relationship, etc.

Dear Monica Fan,

I haven’t read the book but it sounds like everyone should have a copy, especially since I have read many posts on these lists about in law problems! I have listened to Dr. Laura a few times but with my schedule I just have to catch who I catch. I really like Focus on the Family with Dr. James Dobson. Don’t you think he has been really a God send in our times?

Yes, he has been a godsend and he is so very hated by the left. I remember doing a web search on Dr. Dobson several years ago and there were all kinds of death threats against him. It takes a very courageous person to stand up to the hatred today.

Regarding the book I mentioned. I especially like the chapter on "Becoming an In Law and Grandparent. The authors give very good advice. For example, they say that if your married adult child calls you for advice for marital problems, don’t take sides and suggest they see a Christian marriage counselor instead. It’s best to remain neutral because seldom can the responsibility for the conflict be laid at the feet of one partner, usually both husband and wife has said and done things to compound the problem.

Thanks for responding to my post, F.S. Casey. I really appreciate it. God bless~

None of my children are married but I think that that is going to be a very hard, yet prudent thing to do - keep my trap shut and not take sides! But how true because once we say something negative about our dil/sil, we can not take it back and more then likely they will make up and our words will be hanging there forever - yikes! I wonder if anyone has any stories about these things they could share with us - good or bad?
