I am planning a medieval dinner/theater fundraiser and want to present about five vignettes on medieval saints. My thought is that people don’t understand the church in the medieval time period and a look at the lives of key saints would be a great window to look through. I have Francis of Assisi, Brigid of Kildare and Thomas Aquinas down, but am having trouble deciding on two more. The criterion is a lovely combination of colorful and enough different from the others to add a good overview of how incredibly faith filled and active the church was at this time. Also some piece of their life should lend itself well to live drama.

Well, St. Christina the Astonishing’s story cannot help but capture one’s attention…

You might try St. Rita of Cascia, if she’s not too late.
Or there’s always St. Louis IX of France. A saint-king is always interesting, and makes for fun costumes. 🙂

From the late medieval period you;ve got a ton of English Martyrs, and Thomas More and Edward Campion.

Joan of Arc
Francis of Assisi
Peregrine
Saint Clare who founded the Poor Clares. Very easy to portray and a very vivid and interesting story to most people.

Saint John de Matha who founded the Trinitarians. Dramatic and historic.

Saint Norbert who founded the Norbertines, also called the Premonstratensians. (I love saying that word.) 😛

I would suggest St. Joan of Arc (already mentioned) and St. Catherine of Siena.

Here’s your program:
  1. Joan of Arc - the Voices call her
  2. Joan of Arc - presents herself to the King of France
  3. Joan of Arc - relieves the seige of Orleans, saving France
  4. Joan of Arc - captured at Compeigne
  5. Joan of Arc - put on trial
There are endless incidents from her life that you can use.

She actually was 17 went she fought her battles. Died at 19.
Have a pretty teenager play Joan. She’ll bring down the house.
