I thought about calling it “favorite prayer” but I’m sure everyone has a few that they like and are appropriate for various situations.
I like the Rosary, the Serenity Prayer and the Our Father!!! 😃 There are more but those stick out in my head at the moment. Anyone else have any favorite prayers that they care to share?

I’ve always wanted to pray the Akathistos Hymn in an Eastern Church. I don’t know why, it would just be neat. I also like the Coptic Insence Prayer, the Magnificat, the Canticle of Zechariah, Te Deum, Come Holy Spirit, and O Magnum Mysterium.

I know I have more than what I’m posting right now, but these are the ones that immediately flashed through my mind when I read your post:
  • Anima Christi
  • Confiteor
  • Act of Contrition
  • Oblatio Sui
  • Chaplet of the Divine Mercy
  • Memorare
  • Salve Regina
  • Act of Spiritual Communion
  • “Angel Of God…”
  • The St. Michael Prayer for Protection.
The Holy Rosary is difficult for me, because I have a very short attention span, and I wouldn’t want to insult the Blessed Mother by rushing through it.
I find it much easier to meditate on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary at various times of the day, but without reciting the Ave Maria. Reciting the Ave Maria while meditating on the mysteries, distracts me.

Dad always said I couldn’t “chew gum and walk at the same time”. :o

God Bless!

That’s funny cuz mine said that about me too! :rotfl: 😛
It’s a relief to know I’m not the only one with this particular disability. :rotfl:
I never was; nor will I ever be a Multi-Tasker 😉

Is there a Patron Saint of “Multi-Taskers”? 😃

God Bless!

When I think of favorite prayers, the Hail Mary comes to mind.🙂
That’s the one I find myself saying at odd moments. 🙂

I am too new at this to be able to come up with a list like that. Instead, here is my current schedule

After midnight, when I get home from work, the Novena for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, followed by the Novena for the Holy Spirit. These will be ongoing novenas, repeated every nine days

Before I go to work, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, preceeded by the prayer for the Holy Souls. This is followed by the daily rosary, useing the scripture readings from Susan Tassone’s book.

All this and adoration of three cats, who probably think all my prayers are directed at THEM:rolleyes:

At work and at other idle moment, the prayer of the Green Scapular (to convert pagans like me:D ) followed by the Fatima prayer. For times when I am able to sit down and concentrate, the Prayer of St. Gertrude.

On Sundays, my day of rest, my Spiritual Advisor has told me to spend two hours writing a letter to God. NOT a prayer, just a journal of my thoughts about God, my relations with him, my problems, what I am hoping for, anything and everything as long as it is kept informal

I love to sing the “Hail Mary” and fine myself humming it at work quit a bit.
Others: like to sing “Chaplet of Divine Mercy”
and pray the Our Father, Glory Be, and the Rosary.🙂

I love the “Benedictus” and the “Magnificat”

Apart from the Our Father and the Hail Mary I love the Magnificat, the Sanctus, and Psalms 91 (‘He who dwells in the shelter of the Lord…’ ) 26 (‘The Lord is my shepherd…’) and 51 (‘Have mercy on me O Lord …’)

AND Pslam 24:

“O Gates raise high your heads
Open wider Ancient Doors
Let him enter
The KING OF GLORY”

Sounds to me like you may pray “The Hours”?

It so happens I do Morning and Evening Prayer 😃 Then again ‘the Lord is my shepherd’ (which is Psalm 23 btw - my bad) is a psalm most people would be familiar with anyways, and everyone who’s heard ‘On Eagles Wings’ would know 91 as well, of course ;).

Btw … ‘who is the King of Glory? The Lord, the mighty, the valiant, the Lord, the valiant in war …’ :rotfl: But I prefer the verse that starts ‘who shall climb the mountain of the Lord, who shall stand in his holy place?’

“The man with clean hands and a pure heart
who desires not worthless things
who has sworn so as not to decieve his neghbors.”

I realy love psalm 84. “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere,” verse 10. I also love the Lord’s prayer and the prayer of St. Francis, “it is in giving that we receive.” I’ve been singing that one in church all my life, but didn’t know it was from St. Francis until I started RCIA.

Hail Mary
Our Father
Hail Holy Queen
O St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt…
Angel of God
Through Him, with Him, in Him…
Memore
Hail Mary, white lily of the glorious and always serene Trinity…
St. Louis Consecration to MARY
O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle…
Totally yours, Immaculate Conception, Mary my Mother…by Pope John Paul the Great
Come O Creator Spirit Blessed…
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins…
Our Mother of all peoples…

Glory be to the Father
And to the Son
And to the Holy Spirit!
As it was in the beginning
Is now
And ever shall be
World without end.
Amen!

I like the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy,
and the Rosary,
and plain old prayer straight from the heart.

When I saw the title of the thread, this is what came to my mind;
St. Francis’ peace prayer as it helps me to forgive someone whom I was unable to forgive for few years.

another prayer would be “thank you, Lord.”

I don’t know whether it’s a prayer or not, but I really like to sing Holy, Holy, Holy up to the point that my mum thinks that I’m insane, coz I sang it everywhere. 😛

Other prayer would be ‘Catena’, which mainly consists of Magnificat.
That’s all I could think at the moment.

I like this strophe form Pslam 137-in fact it is about th only strophe in Pslam 137 I do like!

“The Lord makes straight the path
of the one he loves
Though you may stumble
you may never fall
for he holds you by the hand.”

I used that as the basis of my “toast” at my daughters wedding reception.

Glory be to the Father

As it was in the beginning

World without end.
Amen!
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell and lead all souls to heaven,
especially those most in need of Thy mercy.
