We are planning to replace our box spring and mattress soon.

What kind do you have? Why do you like it?

TIA 👍

We were able to buy an almost brand-new king sized pillow-top bed from a friend of DH’s for a steal. It is **the best bed **I’ve ever slept in! They’re quite expensive when they’re brand new and we never would’ve been able to afford it other than DH’s friend’s mother was selling it. Her husband had died (he was around 70) and she just didn’t want/need such a big bed anymore. They had only bought it very recently and hardly slept in it. We got it for $300…I think brand new they’re a couple thousand. I don’t know your budget but again, it’s so comfortable!

Good luck on your search! 🙂

We have an air bed and love it. We both can set the firmness to our own likes. I don’t think I will ever go back to a regular spring type mattress, the ones we slept on when traveling recently were horrible!

Got my best sleep when we were sleeping on the air mattress at my S-I-L’s

Be careful of the fire retardants in mattresses. Latex mattresses with wool do not need to be treated if I remember correctly.

A rather traditional one with some tweaks. It’s closer to hard than soft, but it’s springy and the are no points effecting too much pressure like where springs are located. It’s wonderful for my poor spine.

I’ve had a pillowtop since 2000 and love it. It hasn’t lost any of its loft after 9 years and is still very comfortable (and comforting!). I haven’t noticed that it retains heat any more than any other mattress and because of the fat quilted pillowtop, it gets good air circulation. When it bites the dust I’ll get another.

DH and I have a Tempur Pedic mattress. It’s definitely the way to go if you can afford it. We had a pillow top and I didn’t like it because my hips would ache in the morning from sleeping on my side (and I was only 25 at the time).

Good luck in making your decision!

We’ve had a Select Comfort air mattress since before they began to be called Sleep Number Beds. It’s the best thing ever. I want a featherbed and DH would gladly sleep on the hard floor, and this bed accomodates both of us happily. And you’re not locked in to whatever firmness you choose - you can change it every five minutes if you want!

I have a Sleep Number bed and I HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT.

The reason I am so unhappy is that they DO NOT provide customer service to the home. You buy the bed and the guys come out and set it up. Then they leave. That is the LAST of the Sleep Number company you will ever see.

What do you do when one side of the bed keeps deflating? I called customer service on the phone and they sent me out all this stuff, but I had to disassemble the bed myself and try to take out the parts we think were broken and put in the new. This is a kingsize bed. Cumbersome to say the least. And for what I paid, I think someone who knows how these beds are made should come over and fix it. And btw, it’s still deflating on one side…

I went to the store where I bought the bed and was told “yeah, we should’ve told you we don’t have customer service to your home. I guess you’ll have to just threaten to sue us”.

Like I want to do that! I just want the bed fixed!!! AARRGGHHH.

I love the memory foam mattresses. Unfortunately, they aren’t a good choice for SE Texas - too hot. We have one of those “number” beds that pumps in air. I really like it. My husband and I have VERY different ideas of what makes for a comfortable mattress and we can each set our sides independently. I also like that I can change the setting to harder when my back needs some extra support or softer when I am feeling under the weather.

I dont have one of these…but they look really comfortable.

I am jealous of your bed. 🙂

newf,
They told you you’d just have to sue them? I’d go on every blog I could find and talk about it. And find out what the consumer laws in your state are for returns. That baby’d go back if at all possible. That really stinks. The customer used to always be right. Now consumers have absolutely zilch power and even teenaged sales clerks have no problem treating you with contempt. But that’s a topic for another thread. Sorry. It’s my hot-button.

Thanks for sharing my pain!

The problem is, I have a real life besides chasing down the Sleep Number people, you know? I’ve already spent a lot of time on the phone to no avail.

You are right, though, I should probably find out what my rights are as a consumer in this situation.

Tempur Pedic is out . . . I’ve slept on them a few times and don’t like them.

Dh is leaning towards the air type, but I’m leary.

Keep the opinions coming and I will keep reading reviews on line

I have a Sealy Posturpedic pillow top that I’ve had since 1998. I still love it and would recommend it.

My kids have had good luck with their mattresses from IKEA. If you get their top of the line mattress, they are actually very nice.

I noted that Lil_Cat had hip pain with her pillow-top. I had it with my regular bed but haven’t had hip pain at all with the pillow-top even though I’m a side-sleeper and have, uh, pronounced Italian hips.

I suggest going with an organic mattress set. If you google “toxic mattresses” you’ll understand why.

We have a king mattress set from Royal Pedic. We purchased it from the internet (The Organic Mattress Store), as we don’t live in the town that has the store. Free shipping. We bought it without testing it, and it’s the best mattress we’ve ever had.

Good luck in your search. It’s a big decision and expensive too! So I hope you get the one that suits your needs the best. 🙂

We bought a Stearns and Foster. It’s in the warehouse just 20 min away, so dh will pick it up on Monday 👍

I finally purchased a Tempur Pedic and now wonder what took me so long!
I have a bad back (a curvature of the spine). The Tempur Pedic allows my back muscles to relax and, for the first time, I can actually lay on my back in complete comfort, as well as on my side and even my stomach. I was & am amazed.

A good night’s sleep and the feeling of well-being is worth much more than the price.
And Sleepy’s offered a 0% financing rate which made the cost very palatable.

We bought ours at Sleepy’s, too.
