I just got this insert about the Maronites going into many Sunday parish bulletins this weekend. I see that St Charbel’s feast is celebrated on July 24, although he reposed on December 24th. Why is his feast celebrated on July 24th?

July 23/24 is the date of St. Charbel’s ordination, he was ordained to the priesthood in Bkerky, the Maronite Patriarchate, in 1859.

I was taught it was 23 July because that was the day he was ordained.

I understand that may be the date of his ordination, but why is the Feast on the anniversary of his ordination instead of his repose? 🙂

I couldn’t say for certain, but I’ll bet that since the Nativity is celebrated the night of Dec 24, Mor Charbel’s feast was moved to the 24th of June.
