Since I know there are many people on CAF with a devotion to Saint Josemaría Escrivá, I thought we could share any information we have about upcomoing Masses on or around his feastday of June 26.

Allow me to get the ball rolling by posting this:

Also, I want to point out that if there is not such a Mass in your area, perhaps you could speak to your priest about saying the Mass of St. Josemaria on June 26th in your own parish. One of our local parishes actually does this-- the parish has no connection whatsoever with Opus Dei, but several of the priests have devotion to him, so you can pretty much go to any Mass there (Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara) on the 26th and it will likely be in honor of St. Josemaria.

Anyone else want to share details from their neck of the woods?

In the Chicago area, this parish always has a special mass. I can’t imagine they won’t this year, but I don’t know the details as of yet:

Here is the link. It is worth clicking on just to see the picture of the interior of the parish. Wow! It is visible from the Kennedy, so it is not hard to get to.

Hey…I love Father Josemaria Escriva. I wish I had the strength to join Opus Dei. But alas…I don’t. He was great.🙂
 
Well, where I live the Feast of St. Josemaría is always a very big deal, I live in Pamplona near the campus of the University of Navarre, which he founded in 1952!

And thank you, Pug, for the link to St. Mary of the Angels parish. That’s my former parish before Ieft Chicago, and it is indeed *very *beautiful, inside and out. I was a member of the parish for most of the period that it was under restoration and was there for the grand celebration of the church’s re-opening and re-consecration! The video links embedded in the web page give you a great tour of the interior. Did you know that the dome is an exact replica, albeit on a smaller scale, of the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome?

The links brought back many wonderful memories, and I am long overdue for a trip back to visit friends there.

🙂 You’re welcome, and no, I did not know that about the dome. How wonderful that must have been for you to see the restoration and celebration to full beauty of your parish!

Hey Margaret! Thank you for posting this. I am so glad I found it. I live in this area too. Have you ever been to one of the Opus Dei recollections at St. Isidore’s in Danville? I go when I can and I really enjoy the priests’ talks and the spiritual direction I have received in the confessional. I have only recently returned to the faith a year ago and it is very interesting learning about what different things are going on in our local parishes. Growing up in the same area, I had absolutely no idea.

Hi Julie!

I don’t live in the East Bay so I don’t go to St. Isidore’s, but I *will *be at the Mass with my husband and more kids than you can shake a stick at! 😃 I’ll PM you-- maybe we can meet up there and say hello IRL. That would be a first for me…

Followup–

I can’t remember the last time I was this organized ahead of time to get out to this special Mass on time. Actually checked the kids’ “Sunday Best” a day early to see what needing laundering and pressing. Checked the travel time on Google Maps and allowed thirty minutes more than that. Brought home pizza nice and early so we could leave in plenty of time.

And hit the Worst. Traffic. Jam. I’ve seen in a long time. Good grief. Even with leaving half an hour of “padding,” we arrived during the homily. The church was hot and crowded, but it was still worth the trip. After the Mass, I also had a chance to briefly meet Bishop Vigneron of Oakland, the main celebrant. I had been wanting to for a while, because of the excellent letter he wrote last month after the same-sex marriage court decision here in California. So it was nice to have a chance to thank him in person for giving us Catholics our “marching orders,” so to speak, and a bit of a pep talk as well. And I had a chance to meet up with friends I rarely get to see because we’re so spread out throughout Northern CA.

All in all, despite the traffic, it was lovely.

Thanks to all who shared details of their local Masses! I’d love to hear about how they went!
