I located this online but it just makes no sense to me. Is there anyone who can translate this for someone who’s admittedly uninformed about pre-Vatican II feast rankings?
Code:
d1cl - double of first class
d2cl - double of second class
dm - double major feast
d - double feast
sd - semi-double feast
sp - simple feast
v - vigil
f - ferial day; no feast appointed
What, for example, is a “double of first class”? Why not just call it first class? What does the “double” mean? What about “double major”? How is that different from a straight-up double? Help?

Double (duplex) is an old term which is now obscure but likely meant that two sets of Matins were to be used - the one of the feria or week-day, the other of the festival.

Duplex:
  • Higher rank: duplicia secundae classis and the duplicia primae classis
  • Minor rank: duplicia minora
