Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Tomorrow’s Gospel helps us to “drill down” (as the expression goes), on our purpose during this preliminary period of 12 days in our 33 Day journey to Total Consecration. St. Louis de Montfort wrote that anyone desiring to practice True Devotion should spend at least 12 days: “emptying themselves of the spirit of the world, which is opposed to the spirit of Jesus…”
Tomorrow’s Gospel gives us part of the Sermon on the Mount: (Mt. 6: 24 - 34) and Jesus begins in this section helping us to see the radical choice we must make between Whom we will love and serve FIRST:
Today is Day 6 and we are half way through this 12 day period. It has been a blessing for me to see how anxiety can be one of those things, I need to empty out, by God’s Grace, because it opposes the spirit of Jesus who entrusted Himself to the Father. He did always the Will of His Father. He put Him First. Like Martha, we can get anxious about many things; but we need to listen to Jesus, Who is our Way, our Truth and our Life. We need as Martha did to change, by God’s Grace. As she became St. Martha so we by Grace are all called to holiness. Each of us is called to be a unique saint, refelecting the Light of Christ in a unique way.
Come, Holy Spirit, help us see what is “of the world” in our hearts and begin emptying ourselves. Mary our Mother and Model, pray for us. Jesus, we trust in You!

The spirit of the world is an “anxious spirit” as was Martha’s spirit in the Gospel passage from Luke which we looked at yesterday. Martha, thanks to God’s Grace listened to Jesus’ words and began to change. Jesus told Martha that she was anxious and troubled about many things but only one thing was necessary. God is necessary and the one thing necessary for us is our relationship with Him.
