Federal Gov’t Installs Pole Barriers at Mexican Border
Wednesday, January 11, 2006

TUCSON, Ariz — Federal officials will begin installing steel pole barriers this month to stop drug and migrant smugglers from driving through what have been high-traffic corridors along sections of the Mexican border in Arizona and New Mexico.

Probably not the best way, but it is legal. I think the only true way would be have the miliary patrol the border with shoot to kill orders. I do not think that is legal and I know it is not ethically sound.

Well, indeed not. Trying to illegally immigrate is hardly a capital crime.

It was briefly mentioned in the article…
"Federal officials will begin installing steel pole barriers this month to stop drug and migrant smugglers from driving through what have been high-traffic corridors along sections of the Mexican border in Arizona and New Mexico. "
but the main use is for drug smuggling with an added benefit that it perhaps would cut down on migrant smugglers.

Well, gang bangers who also smuggle illegal immigrants often use the same routes as the drug smugglers, which makes it so dangerous down there. The operations are ran by the same people.

OP was about drug smugglers, not illegal immigrants. people who enjoy bashing the Border Patrol have no idea that they are the major frontline defense against this plague of illegal drugs entering our country. They also have no idea that many illegals smuggled in by coyotes are not innocent campesinos looking for a better life, but human cargo for the sex trade. Read recent posts on the Vatican warning about human trafficking. the purpose of the barriers is to allow the BP to investigate and search if necessary each person and vehicle.

Drug running is a capital crime in the USA? Really? I sincerely hope not.

It kills people. I don’t see why it shouldn’t be. But no, it’s not.

Semper,

A bit “off-subject” here I know - but here’s my tuppenceworth on your proposal to use the death penalty for drug running…

Drug running is an evil crime, preying (and killing) upon the the weak, the disillusioned, and the innocent of this world for mere profit.

Unfortunately the death penalty also happen to kills innocent people as well - i.e. when the courts inevitably get things wrong…

amnestyusa.org/abolish/factsheets/factsinnocence.html

It is my belief that two wrongs never make a right and unless a judicial system can be put in place to ensure that innocent life is NEVER terminated by the death penalty (pretty impossible I am sure you would agree) - the US should take the lead and drop the death penalty ASAP - and then perhaps other countries would follow suit around the world.

We all abhore abortion - i.e the indefensible termination of innocent human life - the death penalty has very striking similarities to abortion at a very basic level.
