QUOTE=Abigail;3241378]universalindult, your post seems to indicate you agree with stmaria’s earlier post: “Don’t worry. It doesn’t exist. This thread has turned into a Traditional bashing.”
I sincerely don’t perceive any “Traditional bashing” on this thread, if “bashing” is interpreted to mean a desire to hurt others.
Catholics that attend the TLM are probably 1%. To suggest that racism is a trait of Traditionalist is bashing. You don’t consider the following statement that was posted bashing?
Since Traditional Catholicism isn’t mainstream, you’re naturally going to find a few odd people mixed in. Some people, unfortunately, don’t really understand what the TLM is all about. They think that anything that is older is better, and that we need to “go back to” some certain period in history when everything was just lollypops and roses. For them, the TLM is like those fantasy role playing game meetings where people dress up and pretend they are wizards or dragon slayers- instead these people like to think they are living in centuries past with none of the evils and uncertainties that make modern life so difficult and complicated. Hence, their odd fascination for lost causes and bygone eras. It’s not about making them happen, but escaping into the idea of them.

It is difficult for me to understand how stmaria can make the blanket statement that racial prejudice does not exist among traditionalists – I have seen it myself, so I know that her assertion that “It doesn’t exist” is uninformed
.
It certainly doesn’t exist to the extent that been posted.
Doesn’t it exist in those 99% of Catholics that go to the OF? There are about 49 million Catholics in the U.S. Almost all go to the OF. To single out Traditionalists as racist is silly.
Although I believe most traditional Catholics are sincere and holy people, it is not “bashing” to point out some of the negative aspects of the traditionalist movement and discuss them with charity, which is what I perceive is going on in this thread
.

Fine, but I stand by my statement that if I accused those that go to the OF of racism and wierd behavior I would be banned from posting.

In its more extreme forms, I fear that the traditionalist movement is just as divisive and ultimately anti-authoritarian as liberals who push for women priesthood, etc.

Pleas explain what you mean by “extreme forms” Other than sedevacnatists, Traditionalist are not anti-authoritarian. You are confusing demanding that the Mass be reverent and adhering to the rubrics with anti-authority. The liberals that push for women priests come from those that attend the OF not the TLM.

I probably should have made it clear that I’ve been going to this TLM parish for about a year and a half. My own personal stress on some of the matters that were going on started a month or two ago.
Then perhaps giving it more time would be in order, if you are up to it emotionally. I still think you need some local guidance though, that can actually here all the details and give good spiritual counsel. As far as racism is concerned, remember that the root of racism is ignorance. There is no greater tool against it that personal knowledge. This is the great benefit of integration and your presence there might turn a heart or two if there is anyone who buys into some of the weird stuff that you mentioned. Whatever you do, hang in and come back here if you need us to pray for you.

Maybe this has been already said, but why not just do what Rome says? We’ve got the Tridentine Mass back - quite a gift, no?

I’ve heard rumors that the SSPX may be admitted into the Church? If, and that’s a large “if,” they are back, then I think that Traditional Catholicism will become, simply, Catholicism. 🤷
