I am overwhelmed by your generous and most charitable responses. I am feeling a lot better. I still have "bad" days, but they are few and far between. I am getting pictures from the adoptive family and Patrick looks very normal, happy, and well cared for.
To answer some of your questions, I have been asked by my adoption counselor to speak at some point to a group of adoptive parents. I thought at first she wanted me to talk to a bunch of teenage girls, but no, it was the other way around. I joked with her and said, "So you want me to lecture the enemy?" (Ha, ha!) It's still kinda fresh and my personal life is still a disaster, so she's in no hurry to put me behind the podium. I told her I'd do it though.
He was baptised recently. I had a little trouble looking at those pictures and had to talk to my counselor, but in the end it was all good. I just bought him an outfit for Christmas that I'll give to him through the adoption agency. My family doesn't talk about it much, but they don't have to, really. I know he's there and he's happy and that's what matters. I am trying to let this adoption be a life-improving experience at this point rather than a stain on my already less-than-perfect "record." I appreciate what y'all have said about confession being "final" in that once you're forgiven, you're forgiven and you don't have to worry about it anymore. It was helpful to read your posts regarding that issue.
Thank you for all your love and concern. I didn't think this post would still be getting responses at this point but it shows that you care because I am. :)
