God bless you Sonic IN your distress!
Keep in mind that the Scriptures says:
“[God] rules the swelling of the seas,
when it’s waves mount up,
He stills them”(Ps 89:9)

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning
is now and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen.

Since I do not know your situation, nor the manner of which it unfolded, I cannot offer much of a comment. Just remember that your ex is thinking on strictly human terms, you on the other hand, through grace, have made a decision to follow Christ and that is nothing to be ashamed of. In my previous comment to you, I stated that each of us should try to atone for our sins, through both confession & action when possible. But If your EX is not willing to hear you out, be supportive, or accept your decision, then as difficult as it may be, it might be time for you to turn away from this relationship you have him. Each must bear there own cross & thou we can and should lean on each other for support, sometimes it’s best to leave it in gods hands. With all the progress you have in the lord, you should also consider the temptation, I would imagine the passion of your past is still simmering and that can be dangerous. I pray that the lord our father will deliver strength & encouragement to both of you.
I think the OP needs more to understand that Jesus has atoned for his sin, and he can now live in the freedom and rest and joy that comes with this understanding. From that point grows healing and also the ability to reach out and serve other people.

By this point the Op has already been given this information, sometimes a bit of human understanding goes a long way to. Yes we are forgiven by Jesus, but we can still go the extra mile to try and repair the damage we caused through penance.

Hi Diamond Dust,
I think the word is SATISFACTION, we need to
“atone” for our sins by fasting and mourning and
making up for the hurt we caused, no sin is properly
dealt with until we satisfy the conditions for righting
the wrong.

I feel this might be primarily characterized by sin (whether Mortal or Venial is in dispute).

I’m regularly picking fights with my parents, today I basically told my mother off in anger.

I feel as though I’ve committed Mortal Sin; but in talking to my confessor, it would seem this could be Venial instead.

I don’t know how to differentiate between Mortal and Venial. Yes, I understand that for sin to be Mortal, that it must be a Grave Matter.

But I do not know what constitutes a grave matter.
Please don’t be offended. Have you ever heard of this book?

Psychic Wholeness and Healing: Using All the Powers of the Human Psyche
These noted psychiatrists, authors and lecturers blend in an exciting way medieval/classical notions of the human psyche and modern clinical discoveries as they probe the topic of psychic wholeness and healing. The authors explore the entire human psyche including man’s spiritual dimension which is an area totally ignored by most modern psychiatrists - creating in modern man an ever deepening sense of frustration in searching for effective psychiatric treatment for his emotional turmoil. Numerous detailed clinical case histories are included which clarify the authors’ therapeutic principles. The following questions, among many others, are considered in this work: How can a person be helped who lives in constant fear that he has committed a serious sin even though he knows he has not? Does a person who wants to live a moral life, yet cannot refrain from doing things which he knows are immoral, suffer from weakness of will power or from a neurosis which would lend itself to therapy?
