Feeling very excited about my Rite of Acceptance

I finally decide to accept the Rite of Acceptance. My priest told me to be extra careful because now the evil one will go full force without mercy to deter me from becoming a catholic. But he said do not worry as my sponsor will be beside me and shall pray for me. You can pray for me too if you wish. I would appreciate that.

Anyway, since this rite is new for me, what should I expect? What will happen on that day? Do I need to study some questions and answers script? Will I receive a new bible even though I already bought one? Do I need to enter my name into a special book? Should I wear white?
 
I can agree that the evil one is likely to be more active now as you were in his “gang” but have left. Before he didn’t have to do anything as you were away from Christ but now he wants you back into his fold.

The Rite of Acceptance is basically the start of being received into the Catholic Church and for the Church to receive you. See it as a long “baptismal liturgy”. Go to a baptism of an infant and you will see similar things done with the baby and what is done with adults. The major difference is that adults respond themselves and the process is longer. Parents and godparents respond for the baby and everything takes place during the baptism rite.

Those teaching RCIA or priest/ deacon of the parish should tell you about what will happen during the Rite. We did a quick rehearse before so we would know where we would stand and what to say etc. Wear something nice like shirt and dresspants if male and skirt/dress if female. It is an important day in becoming Catholic! You will be called up and stand in front of the whole parish.

For me, it was a joyous day as it was finally the “start” of becoming Catholic. RCIA in that parish is a two year process.

(Those being baptised sign the book during Admissio in Lent when you meet the bishop. Those being baptised will be dressed in a white gown/alb after they have been baptised. This doesn’t take place during the Rite of Acceptance.)
 
You don’t need special clothing and there’s no script to learn. With the Rite of Acceptance you join the Order of Catechumens and have an official role in the Church.
 
Congratulations! I don’t think you have to do much at most say “I do” or “I will” a couple times.

He’s going through the Rite of Acceptance not the Rite of Election. Different rite, different timing.
 
Thanks I edited. I have seen two different parishes do the right of election this early, so it’s not impossible!

Maybe I should read more carefully. 🙂
 
The Rite of Election involves the bishop or his representative. It’s usually done at the cathedral though here in the Los Angeles Archdiocese they do three of them in different locations due to size.

Guide us from every evil.
May all who keep your sacred commemoration
experience the might of your assistance.

The Rite of Election is only during one of the first Sundays in Lent if I am correct and as SuscipeMeDomine, wrote the bishop or his representative should be present.
 
Prayers for you. Some parishes present a Bible, mine did not. You will be called up front along with your sponsor. Your sponsor presents you to the church for acceptance. I remember my priest telling me that I now qualified for Catholic burial!
 
Yeah, thats what I heard too. But I am not very particular with my burial after I am dead. You can bury me anyway you want. I’m dead.
 
There are several videos of actual Rite Of Acceptance ceremonies on YouTube which are helpful for showing what to expect.
